Future Proof Laptop Features - Thunderbolt 3, WiGig, WWAN

I am wondering what features people consider important for a future-proof laptop. Obviously, an SSD would be preferred. I think a Thunderbolt 3 port is a requirement. What do think about the value of WiGig? I don't really get the appeal of WWAN. Couldn't you just use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot to the same effect?

"Future proof" is very much a fallacy for laptops. They are abused too much to last more than 3 years. Just assume you will be replacing it in 3 years and buy what is important TODAY. There is no way to predict the future of tech.

Do Wintel users even use TB? 'cause to hookup external display HDMI is king. External HD people just USB3. Apple, initial adopter of TB, dropping it in favor or USB-C. TB starts looking like another Firewire.

Blindly chasing technology = throw cash to vendors.
