Best Solution... I know there's no future proofing of a GPU but I'm trying to get something that will hold me the longest. I currently have a 270x and I was wondering if I should upgrade my motherboard and crossfire, or keep it and get a 290x. I'm on a budget somewhat and going crossfire would be +$100 cheaper. And I'm only doing 1080p

Solution
1. It's good enough.

2. What percise model is your PSU.

3. Since it's 2GB, you will not see vast difference, the VRAM will hold the potential, I'd advise complete upgrade to better GPU.

4. Ok, no issues, but again your PSU is key if you're to put that 290W monster in your rig.
Some questions:

1. What is the CPU? I hope it's FX 6 or better.

2. Do you have enough juice in the PSU for CFX? That usually adds to the cost, R9 270X crossfire will require a high quality 750W PSU.

3. Do you have the 2GB version? If yes, then CFX will likely not be good enough to justify the cost. 2GB VRAM will hold the power back.

4. Have you considered GTX 970? It's more efficient and retails at $350.

Highly subjective, as you say there is no such thing as a future-proof GPU. Just determine your budget and get the best you can for that amount of money. Don't break the bank though, so you can upgrade again in a couple of years or so. If you start worrying about 'the best', you're going to end with the highest-end and end up paying the premium for latest technology without a significant increase in performance, as well as trying to maintain that huge investment for more time than you should; it will not be worth it.

1. I have an i5 Haswell refresh
2. I have a corsair 700w
3. i is a 2gb
4. Yes I may save a little longer and get that but I can get a 290x for $260 from a friend.
