I want to buy some TV shows I like, but I'm concerned that the blu-ray discs won't work on a Linux machine, and I want to be able to watch them in 30 years without having to re-buy (blu-ray might not even be around then or supported on desktop PCs then, I am guessing).
This makes me think the best way to buy the TV show would be to buy digital files/downloads. But ordinary streaming services seem like they aren't a great choice because you don't know if the streaming service provider will still operate in 30 years, regardless of how big the company is (as we saw with Google Play closing down its music store and making a lot of people lose their music & stored files). And it would be nice to be able to watch it even if my internet goes down, which I can't do with a streaming service.
What's the solution? Is there some kind of digital download provider that sells the movie files/software..., that I can move to a new PC when this PC dies, and run whatever movie files I want?
