I currently have the asus vg248qe with the gtx 970 and i5-4690k and when i use a display port cable i notice in steam the dark grays seem fuzzy and grainy, it is not extremely noticeable though. When i switch to hdmi the fuzziness goes away. I have used two display port cables and the fuzziness is still there. Should i just use hdmi or is there a way to fix it?

Solution
might be a monitors dp input flaw. if you want to use 144hz then you should use the provided dual link dvi d cable. hdmi will limit you to 60hz.

Thank you for the answer, i actually just figured it out, i kept switching sides and ports and eventually the fuzziness went away.

There is no way to tell if the problem is the monitor or the video card without trying more things. First off, you appear to have already eliminated the DP cable itself. Now the next thing would be to try either another video card or monitor. Because the problem could be either item easily.

If you have another computer, or another monitor that supports DP, swap things around. If you do not have another computer or DP compatible monitor, find a friend that might let you try some things with their system and your monitor.

Also, if both DP cables you used with the same brand, try a different brand. The amount of data going through a DP cable is intense. These have to be high quality cables to work right.
