hi everyone;

i'm putting a budget system together i've just picked up the ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2 mobo, and now it's processor time.

i've been considering upto this point to put a AMD FX-6300 processor in it.

however an opportunity has come up where i can pick up a FX-6100 for a clearance price of $75.00 vs the regular price here in canada of 124.99 for the 6300.

just looking for a little feedback in the price vs performance relm, i know the 6300 is a nicer processor. However does the price point of 75.00 off set the short gaps of the 6100.

to give you an idea of the pc's use, it's for my son, so he is going to to be doing lots of league of legends and perhaps try some other titles like battlefield 4 or tomb raider, league however is his main game. i'm putting an R9 270 into the system, if that makes much difference.

let me know your thoughts.

Cheers,
G

right heres a chart that shows relative performance differences between cpus http://www.cpu-world.com/benchmarks/AMD/FX-6100.html its the first graph, from it the fx 6300 is about 16% faster than the fx 6100...so for example you're getting 40fps (using fx6100) in League of legends on particular video settings, the fx6300 will give you 46.4 fps, so thats 6.4 fps more,...similar case with Metro 2033 (this game loves its cpu power) http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/cpu/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100/oc/metro.png the fx6100 will give 19.4 fps on particular video settings, the fx6300 will top it off by giving about 22fps, 3 more than the fx6100...so from that honestly speaking go with the fx6100, because on that price point, the fx6300 is just not a...
Not a bad deal to go with a 6 cores CPU for just 75 bucks. Though Fx-6100 crippled in some titles demanding a lot on CPU but when I checked it out on youtube, it isn't that bad. (Just type '*game title* FX-6100' and check out how game is running and you will be more able to make that call) Plus it's for ur son, if I were you I would just go for FX-6100.

Thanks for all your answers this is the same arguement i have in my mind already.

here is a consideration as well, in a year or so, he can purchase a new am3+ cpu, most likely a high end 9x or 8x fx processor little money, this is a starter processor. am i crazy or no? i think for the price the 6100 is hard to beat...i know the 6300 is better.

"little money?" for FX-8xxx/9xxx CPUs, I don't thjink so.

BTW it's for your son, I guess he would be a teen by now. In my case my pa won't spend a penny and would let me earn and build all by myself. As u have a family, you are not crazy saving 50 bucks.
