FX 6300 heatsink/fan okay for FX 8350 processor?

Hi all :) ... first my apologies for what is undoubtedly a stupid question :) , but I worry a lot so :) ..

Had to replace a AMD FX 6300 black core edition processor (here's the amazon weblink for it with a picture of the heatsink/fan it comes with)

To me the fan for the FX 8350 looks better, bigger, more impressive far as heat dispersal - and was completely impossible for me to install. I'm sure the latch on it was broken or just plain poorly designed. No matter what I did I could not get the latch to lock into place, too much resistance. Like literally, no matter how much force I put on it (which is bad I know I could have wrecked the CPU but .. very tired and frustrated at that point from rebuilding a PC from scratch fried by an electrical surge - and yep have invested in better surge protectors since then and am trying to get an electrician over to install a whole house surge protector) the darn thing would not latch - read compliants from others online about the poorly designed latch on the stock 8350 heatsink/fan.

So I defaulted to the heatsink/fan for the FX 6300, put that on the FX 8350 processor - that heatsink/fan worked great, latched on no problem at all easy to install.

My concern is this - would it be correct to say that the FX 8350 processor, being faster, will give off enough heat such that the FX 6300 fan will not be able to "keep up with it" and cool it properly?

And if this is a concern, would this be a good replacement for it in terms of being able to properly cool the FX 8350? ( " Cooler Master RR-HT2-28PK-R1 Hyper T2 - Compact CPU Cooler with Dual Looped Direct Contact Heatpipes " )

Yeah, the FX 8350 runs hot but the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will do the trick nicely. The good thing about the (properly cooled) FX 8350 is that you can get a solid over clock out of them easily (depending on your motherboard).
 
Forgot to mention... I have a micro ATX (i.e. cheap 😛 ) Asus M5A78L-M Plus/Usb3 -M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 motherboard ...

Like a fool I ordered the RR-HT2-28PK-R1 model version of the Cooler Master Hyper T2 without doing a proper check of the measurements inside my PC case which of course is sized for a micro ATX board, no bigger (I checked the height of the darn cooler master heatsink/fan but didn't think to check the length and width)... pcpartpicker claimed it was compatible with that motherboard which is why I got it.. but now I'm taking proper measurements, gulping and hoping I can squeeze it in there at 3.7 x 3.1 x 5.5 inches without it crowding into the RAM slots to the point where it can't fit...

(sigh)... all this could have been avoided if I just hadn't received what I'm sure is a defective latch on the heatsink/CPU combo ... may just return processor/CPU combo at this point and reorder but reluctant to return it to amazon in case I order it again and get the same problem (have heard horror stories from others online on how the heatsink/CPU has a really bad latch and hard to close it)... lesson learned... wish me luck ! :)
 
Update - success installing the coolermaster model I got :) ... I was bummed because the four-screw thing (where you can use the four screws to screw it directly into the motherboard) was not compatible with the motherboard, would not line up with the screw slots.. so was forced to use that lever-metal arm thing with the two holes in it that latch onto the two plastic protruding type things on either side of the CPU and then lock it shut with the clasp - but, awesomely enough despite my misgivings, it worked ! :) .. a bit worried since the thing looked kind of cheap that I just mentioned really wish I could have screwed it into the four motherboard holes instead 🙁 ..

Anyways, fingers crossed I did it correctly and it keeps my FX 8350 at a decent temperature - if the CPU burns out then I guess I know I messed up 😛 .. thanks again everyone :)
 
Further update .. I would have loved to get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo like everyone suggested.. but it literally will not fit onto my cheap little motherboard 🙁 ... PC partpicker lists my 2 pipe RR-HT2-28PK-R1 model coolermaster Hyper T2 as technically compatible with the FX 8350 and it has a higher fan RPM than the 212 Evo.. but of course the T2 is smaller with only 2 heat pipes compared to the bigger with 4 heat pipes 212 🙁 ... still, the T2 is the only one that will fit on my motherboard 🙁

Don't plan on overclocking the FX 8350 so.. will pray that the T2 does the job! :)
 


There shouldn't be problems with the 212 fitting unless you're having case or RAM clearance issues, though your mention of a cheap little motherboard means you may have another problem: VRM throttling. The FX 8350 is very power hungry and cheaper AM3+ boards (especially the MicroATX ones) will not have sufficient power delivery for the 8350 and your CPU will throttle when put under heavy load.

(groans).. this is the last time I trust pc partpicker to tell me what's compatible with what 🙁 (that website mentioned the 8350 was compatible with my motherboard)... and yep it's a case/ram clearance issue in the case I already did the measurements with a ruler 🙁 ...it's an Asus - M5A78L-M LX PLUS Micro ATX AM3+

....ah well, after spending literally days struggling with the darn assembly I am not going to go back in, undo everything and return all the parts to amazon/walmart 😛 (cpu, motherboard)... thank you for setting my expectations accordingly though :) .. when the darn motherboard/CPU inevitably dies I will know to 1) just bite the bullet and pay for a bigger darn PC case that can house a bigger darn motherboard that can actually take decent CPU coolers 😛 ... and then 2) post here on the forum asking for advice on the CPU/motherboard combo before buying the darn things and going through the nightmare of putting the whole thing together (hours wasted struggling with that darn broken latch thing on the stock fan/heater CPU cooler alone for the 8350 ) ...
 


PCPartPicker says the board and CPU are compatible because they technically are, the 8350 is usually on the CPU support list for those cheaper boards, the problem is the VRMs can't hold up with the 8350's power draw when under heavy load, start overheating and then cause the CPU to throttle. Some people have had luck with using a top down blower CPU cooler or mounting a fan over the CPU socket area to get more airflow over the VRMs to try to cool them, and that might be just enough to get it to run at stock speeds but it's always been a bit dicey. The motherboard vendors really shouldn't have included any of the 8 core FX chips on the CPU support list for these boards (aside from maybe certain low power models like the 8300 or 8320e).

The good news is this is less of a problem for more modern systems, as the motherboard vendors do have some decent MicroATX options for Coffee Lake and Ryzen, at the very least they can usually run the high power draw chips at stock speed without throttling.
 
Thanks again Supernova :) .... I was actually logging in just now to apologize for the " I'm not taking this darn cotton pickin' PC apart and returning the parts to the store ! " thing I said earlier 😛 .. one might pick up on a lot of frustration and anger on my part but believe me when I say that is NOT directed at all you kind people who don't have to volunteer your time and effort to help out ignorant buffoons like me but do so anyways :) .. no, the anger and frustration is directed at myself... for not doing the proper research on this and relying on pc partpicker to guide me. Did I read the reviews on the motherboard and CPU I got? Sure, reviews on the whole were positive for both parts and user reviews on amazon indicated that what I'm assuming is a very similar ASUS motherboard (the Asus m5a78l-m/usb3 board ) worked fine with their FX 8350 build back in 2014 ... but did I stop to think that the CPU would be too much for the motherboard? No I did not.. I could have submitted my proposed build to you kind folks here on the forum before going out and buying the thrice-darned things and spending days assembling them and of course I didn't (slaps head). Of course if the darned latch wasn't apparently broken on the darn stock heatsink/fan cooler that came with the CPU to begin with then maybe I wouldn't be in quite so much trouble.

I do have 5 case fans in the computer for what it's worth... one on the bottom, two on top, one in the front and one in the back. I tried to follow what I'm hoping is the proper procedure for the fans based on my online research... the fan on the bottom blows air towards the top and top fans continue to pull that hot air by blowing it out the top of the PC.. fan in the front blows towards the back of the PC and the fan on the back of the PC continues the pull, pulling the hot air out towards the back... and of course have the cooler master T2 fan set up such that it blows hot air towards the top of the case (reversing the setup such that the air on the T2 fan blows towards the bottom is an interesting thought but... at this point I'm so done with my own stupidity 😛 that I think I'll just leave it alone and wait for it's inevitable death).

Anyways, lesson learned... when this setup of mine inevitably dies get a gosh-darn mid tower case or full tower case (will probably go full tower) and ATX motherboard that is actually big enough to fit proper decent gosh-darn cotton pickin' CPU coolers that will do the job ! And of course posting my proposed build here first to see what wiser heads have to say about it :) ...
