Fx 6300 Now Has 3 Cores??

Yesterday I was in amd overdrive just checking up on some stuff and it was fine, it displayed 6 cores.Today I went in to amd overdrive and It's only displaying 3 cores?!What is happening why does it not say 6 cores anymore?Could it be because my power supply is to low that I cant run it?

It looks to me like it may have been overclocked in the BIOS, since the multiplier as shown in Overdrive is stock (17.5) and the HT ref clock is also stock at 200. The stock voltage should be at 1.3125, yours is at 1.2 (CPU VID).

That shouldn't reduce the number of available cores (I don't think), because I was able to overclock mine to 4114mhz by increasing the multiplier, HT ref clock and voltage.

I'm glad James Mason jumped in here, because I am at a loss.

Do you (James) think he should reset the CMOS?

Should I try to put the voltage up?

I know we can get the settings in the BIOS back to stock by re-setting the CMOS (and I can walk you through that if necessary), but perhaps someone has a different way to go about it.

Is that where you take the battery out?

Actually that motherboard has a "Clear CMOS" jumper. See the very bottom of the image below. Do you have your motherboard manual? If not, if you send me a personal message with your email address, I can send you a PDF copy of the manual.

I have heard that sometimes removing the battery takes a long time to clear CMOS.

If you do want to clear CMOS, Turn off the computer, AND unplug the computer's power cord from the wall.

Now that I think about it, I don't think you will need to clear CMOS to restore the BIOS values to default. Just get back into the BIOS and there should be an option to "Load optimized Defaults" or similar language. Select this and save and exit.

Clear CMOS is used in the event something got really screwed up and you can't even boot up the computer.

open search and look for and run "msconfig"

Go to the boot tab, click advanced options and what do you see there?

Are you using the stock CPU cooler or an aftermarket cooler? The stock cooler is barely adequate for stock settings and certainly not for any overclocking.

No I have a 4 heat sync pipe fan.After seeing that resetting bios didn't bring back the 3 cores,i overclocked again.However the overclock doesnt show in task manager but it does show in amd overdrive 😛

I have found that Task Manager often doesn't report the correct CPU frequency. When you reset the BIOS, did you SAVE and EXIT?

Edit: Use CPU-Z to check the frequency.

Yes.Even when I went in and didn't edit anything it said all cores were active.

On cpu z it's very weird.It rotates through 4 ghz to 1.7 ghz for some reason

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. Finnaly i found out something wasn't allowing my cores to run in msconfig so I fixed it.
