I have a FX 8150 and the motherboard died (asrock 970 extreme3) I don't know what fully happend but I had to bin the board (the vrms or capacitors had burned) Because of electrical smell. I don't really want to get a used board (because they could of been ragged to hell) but I have found a board the asrock pro3 r2.0 which has a alright price at £65. Dose any one know if this board would work with the CPU I have no intend on overclocking and I have a aio cooler (600w psu ) and a Rx 480 and upgrading is not a option as I don't want to spend alot and the FX 8150 is still a good chip thanks for the help

Just a note all these cheaper Asrock boards have trouble with 125watt TDP processors because of bad VRM design. It is essential that you follow the instruction for the red asterix on the CPU support page.
Years ago this forum was full of posts about the extreme 3 line having problems.

Could your expand on that and is that why my old board died. I still have not got another board yet if you have a recommendation

If you are going to spend much more money to get your old tech up and running, you might consider a complete upgrade.

For the cost, with no over locking, the aforementioned motherboards will suffice. You can only extend the useful life of the AM3 baseline so far.

Just some thoughts to consider.

I know that but the fx is still a really good CPU and as in only casual gaming (and as well I only have Rx 480) they is no point and I might as well upgrade when all the big core count am4 CPUs comedown in price the Ryzen 7 has a 8 core processor but it's close to £200 and I used the FX processor not just for gaming

Understood, that is why the low cost options discussed earlier are okay.

rolli59 is correct if you are pushing the system harder. There are better (more expensive) options to be had.

It is hard to find new boards for that CPU but 990FX chipset boards are the best excluding Asrocks extreme 3.
Couple of 970 boards had better than average VRM's MSI 970 gaming and Gigabyte GA970A-UD3(P).
I personally would not hesitate to buy used and look for an FX990 board.
I have found a msi 970 board would it be a good purchase to get ?

Sure, that is a decent mobo. If you can accommodate a full ATX size in your case. The price would have to be right, too.

I am not a fan of the Killer network adapter it uses. Those can be a pain, in some systems.
Thanks alot I just picked one of them up actually it was near brand new came with all the manuals and box and cd from what I was reading it may be in part with my old extreme 3 board but in not 100% sure of that
