Hi everyone,

I have a FX 8320 on a ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard, and it has been having really high load temps. The temperature gets up to ~80c when playing overwatch and other games, consistently. Idle temps are in the 40s, with a ambient temp of ~23. I have a hyper 212 evo as the cooler and have reseated it many times, but the temps seem to remain the same. I recently put the old AMD stock cooler back on to see if it was a heatsink problem, and the temps got even higher with that heatsink. Does anyone know what the cause of these high temps could be? Would really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

I have the same CPU, OC'd to 4.8Ghz, my idle temps are around 54C, so your idle temps are lower than mine. I would first check if your CPU is overclocked. If not, re-apply thermal paste(a piece the size of a grain of rice)to your CPU. And if that doesn't help, this CPU in general just runs hot.

Did you check if your CPU is overclocked?

Yea, its only the default turbo boost which makes it go up to 4.0ghz but no other over clock.

I suggest turning off the OC and downclocking to 3.5Ghz if that is not already the stock speed. AMD(especially FX) CPUs run hot, much hotter than an Intel chip at the same speed. If you want to keep your OC and even OC further, I would suggest picking up an all in one CPU cooler. I have the Aquachanger 240. It comes with its own fans and it isn't loud at all(it also looks a lot more badass compared to a air cooler 😛).

They do get hot. I need a water cooler to keep my temps down due to my OC.

I'm using hardware monitor to check the temps. I just reseated the CPU on the mobo and put my 212 evo back on. The temps are hovering around ~73 but its still a bit higher then I'd like. The thermal margins show ~9c when I'm at ~73c.

I also have MSI Afterburner on full time, think I should run a 3rd and compare the 3?
