[SOLVED] FX 8350 Stock Cooler Noise

I have a corsair h100i and it is stupidly loud even at idle with perfect temperatures of around 20 degrees. I was wondering, is the fx 8350 stock cooler really as loud as people say it is? I enjoyed my a10 6700 stock cooler, it was quiet even when overclocked. I don't know if people are just over exaggerating the noise. I will not be overclocking the 8350, I will be running it at clock speeds like 1-1.4 GHz.

Yes... it is pretty loud IMO especially if you feel the idle noise is loud from your H100i.

I think the fans and pump are faulty, they are at 2400 rpm at idle and scream all the time. Is the fx 8350 cooler really louder than the a10 6700 cooler? You would think that a higher end cooler would be quieter.

The 83xx series coolers are pretty loud. Put a cooler master tx3 on my 8320 and that quited things down A LOT.

Yeah my parents won't let me get anything else, so do I stick with a faulty loud h100i or do I swap it for the stock cooler? My friend has the h100i and his is SO much quieter...

Its a 65w processor vs 125w. The stock cooler is technically "better" on the AM3+ platform, but it runs a 60mm fan that spins up to 6000 RPM. Its loud and inefficient.
Use Corsair Link and monitor the pump and fan speeds.

I dont see any reason you would ever want to run an FX processor at anything less than its stock speeds.
If you are worried about noise or heat, go intel.

I had the exact same fps and performance at 1GHz than I had at 4, so I didn't see the point in the extra heat output.

I find that extremely hard to believe. AMD processors have very low IPC, so they need their higher clock speeds to keep up.
What were you doing that gave you the "exact same" performance?

In far cry 4 at ultra at 1440p, I lost 5 fps by going from 4 to 1 GHz, and in minecraft I lost about 50 fps because it is badly optimized for the gpu, but I still had over 60 fps.

Sorry but I have a hard time believing you ran farcry 4 ultra on a downclocked AMD processor with minimal performance loss.

It happened! Most games use the gpu mostly (apart from minecraft) and only see a performance hit from lack of cpu at about 4k, but even then it is minimal.

The other thing to consider is any graphics card would be heavily bottlenecked by the lack of processing power to keep up with information supply to the GPU. Heavily reducing performance even more.

GPUs are excellent at parallelism, so they can easily outperform a CPU, which is why some high end graphics cards are built with 3 fans, huge heatsinks and huge copper pipes. CPUs can have that if they are overclocked, but usually they don't because they don't produce as much heat.

The processor still has to supply the information to the graphics card to process, which is why you cant pair a high end graphics card with a budget graphics card. The processor wont be able to keep up, and will limit what the graphics card can do.
The cooling on the GPU has exactly nothing to do with this fundamental relationship.

I got a bit confused when I was explaining haha. The CPU at 1GHz does more than 1 billion FLOPS, and so even if the graphics card has to turn down it's own speed slightly it won't make a difference. Also there are 8 cores on my CPU, not all will be used but it is enough to game on.

Do you have software that monitors your fan speed (e.g. Corsair Link)? You need to set a fan profile so it slows the RPM when idle, speeds up when under load.

I don't know why you would underclock your CPU to be honest, but that's your choice.
