Hi, im building a budget for somebody else. will a fx4300 be enough for at least 720 p with a radeon rx 460 ? i know its outdated but they wont a cheap solution. alternative is using a used lga 775 system with a xeon x5460 but if i go with fx4300 i can go with a new motherboard for almost same price.

IIRC, games that need 4 cores to launch only look at logical cores (threads), not physical cores. So you'll be fine in that regard. No, the G4560 is not the most future proof CPU out there, but you seem to be on a tight budget. It should perform better than any FX chip in the majority of games though, and has an upgrade path.

I agree. You shouldn't be focused on strictly fps. Going with that setup for BF1 will give you a competitive disadvantage against everyone else who abides by running the game on recommended/minimum system requirements.

I hate using the word "future proof", but if I were you and wanted to play games for the next few years, I would go with an intel core i5 as a bare minimum. Having four physical cores will start to be a requirement as newer triple A titles come out.

thanks to all advice but im gonna go with this, new asus am 3+ motherboard and used amd phenom 11 x4 965, total price of 100 s.
it will be enough for this build and the cpu seems to handle most new games at at least minimum

I agree. Not only this, you are purchasing this obsolete configuration a week before AMD will be coming out with their new AM4 ryzen chips. That's foolish in my opinion. You should at least wait to see the price to performance benchmarks before making a decision.

If you can find a used Phenom II X6 1090T or 1100T for a reasonable price, they have six cores and overclock well.

An FX 83xx isn't a particularly good gaming CPU even now, and is outperformed by a Pentium G4560 in the majority of games. It's only going to get worse as time goes by...

valhallarising, it sounds like you made your decision before deciding to post on the forum, so why did you even bother? There's many knowledgeable forum members posting on this thread telling you not to purchase that setup, and for good reason. If you don't want to take our advice, and you'd like to purchase an expensive paper weight, go ahead and do it already.

While this isn't how I would have worded it, it's roughly what I would have said.

@valhallarising, what was the point of this post if you're not going to listen when others post options that offer more performance at a comparable price point?

my Point was to hear if anbody had any experience of using the fx4300 , im not trying to start a fight but i made it kind of clear from the start that i dont care about the new stuff or the people im building this for dont care about that. i appreciate your suggestions but if i dont agree with you dont i have to right to question that?

and the price Point is not affordable for this build , the ryzen cpus are listed for about 300 s here right now the cheapest one, i dont see how that is affordable for this kind lof low budget build. the prices for the g4560 and motherboard are higher here to. dont get me wrong im not trying to start a fight i just dont agree about Everything you say.

i understand what your saying that for a more normal build they would be a good choice over intel for that price, the people that are gonna be using this want cheapest possible solution thats why im going with a used older cpu and possibly a radeon rx 460 Graphics card. in my book that should bring them up to at least 720 p for most games. maybe even full hd on some . i was just trying to get some input from people taht been using it and see what kind of result they get.

Even though it's not the same CPU, my brother has an old machine with an FX 4100 in it. His GT 430 pushes it to 85% usage on its turbo speed (3.8GHz).
