The i5 is better and psu doesn't really matter aslong as its not cheap and aslong as it has enough wattage, get the evga 600 watt though.

go with the fx-6300 combo you mentioned, BUT: get the m5a97 R2.0 instead of the m5a97 le R2.0, the non le-edition is only $10 more and it is a much much better board, with 8 pin power, vrm heatsinks which will allow you to overclock, as well as an onboard usb 3.0 header. The fx-6300 has huge overclocking potential and you can't overclock it well on the le edition

I have to agree with i5-2500k. the i5 will be better at stock clocks and can also easily overclock. and it comes with a cooler capable of handling a higher than stock clock. IF its the same price.

also, i have a friend that still uses a 2500k and against my 4670k in games it makes 0 difference. so basically get the performance of a brand new i5.

i5-2500 is overall a better chip, but you're paying $70 more for it. fx-6300 is better value and better at overclocking, i5-2500k is better single core performance and slightly better in game performance. It's hard to compare the two considering the difference in price.

That i5 is sandy bridge, I am on the next revision (ivy bridge) and my benchmarks are so close to all the websites that use the 4790k/5820k in their test beds.

in my country the r2.0 version is a lot more expensive than the le r2.30
and i would need to buy an hyper 212 too
and for that price i could instead buy an i5 4460 and h81 mobo

i think i will go with the used 2500k

Yeah if you can't get the r2.0 version, go with intel on this one

go with the i5, there is a whole lot of complex computing reasons, overclocking THEORETICALLY gives linear performance increase, but in games this is NEVER true. Because games do not issue a complete data set and let the CPU decide how to go about finishing the calculation. Games work on an extremely linear instruction set where the game engine issues specific instructions in a specific order. Because of this the next command in the list requires the output from the first command. This means that IPC is far more important than clock rate in determining performance.

Basically, the i5 will out perform the 6300, even if you overclock the 6300.

This is based on having a steady frame rate. If you average the frame rate over time, there will be times where the fx is issued istructions it can handle more easily, but what you will notice is that during each second the i5 will far out perfrom the 6300

A weighted average of FPS over play time will showthat the i5 is FAR SUPERIOR. Just get it.
