Hi all,

I just upgrade my graphic card to R9 380 4g. I played cs last night, but it got <10 fps sometimes. But gpu core load is not even high when fps drops, but my cpu load get to close to 80 in one core, and get obviously higher in other cores. Does this mean my cpu is the reason of the low fps during the game???

Thank you!!!

Hey there Davout,

Couple of questions: Which games were spiking? Is it an 8320E or just 8320? That shouldn't really matter, those won't bottleneck you, but without knowing the game it's difficult advise.

The game is CS1.5. It's a 8320.

I did not uninstall the previous driver.
The previous card is r7 250, still a amd card. Do i need to uninstall it??
How to clear CMOS? could you guide??

CS1.5 shouldn't be limited by anything. If you're getting massive frame drops I would do as Andrei mentioned, use a driver uninstaller and reinstall. Is this a new issue or something that is persistent?

Then yes, you're CPU bottlenecked on CS1.5, but mostly because that game is so old that it doesn't use very much GPU power at all. You shouldn't have any problems getting 150+ FPS so regardless of what kind of monitor you have you'll be maxing out the refresh rate.

Hi Davinlevey,

It's actually there when I was using my r7 250 card, it's just worst in this card.
I thought it was my 250 bottleneck the performance. Now, it's better, but still drops to <10 fps sometime on r9 380 card.

I thought so too since this is a old game. I can not imagine fx8320 can not handle this old game??? Is that weird???

Yes you should always uninstall old drivers when changing hardware. This is even before you put your new hardware in. Clearing the CMOS is easy.Shut down your computer, leave it plugged in but turn the PSU off. Take the motherboard battery out and put it back in after 1 minute. you will then be prompted to restore BIOS setting to default when turning on your PC. If you have any features modified in BIOS, you will have to edit them again.

I agree. I played this game on even older pc, and does not have this issue.
I can not believe with my current config its not good. This is very weird.

Is it possible that the version of windows??? I played it on my older pc with WinXp (I believe), now I opened it with 'previous version' option in my win7. Could this be the cause???

I think you are right. during the game, I monitor the gpu, it's only very little loaded, and the fan is not even started spinning (which means almost no load to gpu).

I did install the lastest version of driver.
So i still need to uninstall the old one, and install the new driver again, right?

thank you for your guidance. I will do this too.

Ok, I got you.
I will do that.
Thank you all for your help !!!!!

Just let you guys know.
I uninstall, and re-installed the driver, and now it's smooth!!! It proves the issue is that I did not uninstall the old driver before I installed the new one.
Thank you again for all your help and thoughts !!!
