amd fx 8320

8192 A-Data PC3-12800 (800 MHz)

gtx 950

400w psu

GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0 780g chipset

I have a 4+1 mobo, would it be advisable to use only 6 of 8 cores by turning them off in bios to attempt to get a higher clock speed on the other cores?
also

last month i used amd overdrive to try overclocking, and then i picked up an SSD, and didn't do a completely fresh install. now in my bios the minimum voltages that i can tune in are way higher than earlier, i used to be able to dial in 1.31 but now it only lets me dial in 1.4 or more, giving me a danger zone towards 1.5, reinstalling amd overdrive did not seem to do anything, could this be a corrupted bios? for the majority i've left voltages under 1.4 for all (from my knowledge) for the past 3 years up til this month

Reset the CMOS and leave it stock. The VRMs are weak, unless you have a downdraft cooler (stock style) they have no cooling on them. I've literally seen someone set a better board than that on fire with a 9590 (heavily overclocked 8350) trying to overclock on it.

thanks for the reply. I also have been having this issue where changing bios settings does not seem to do much... i changed the cpu clock multiplier to 20 but it does not clock that high but my turbo overclock does go to the 4.1ghz, should i reset cmos?
