G.Skill i7 RAM

I ordered the gskill ram as I said above but it didnt say anything specific about being for a certain cpu just that I know the pins will fit my mobo. So will it only work for the i7 cpu or is that what it is just best used for?

Not sure what set you picked, so don't know, if you got a K model i7 it should run most any set at spec, however if you got a non-K i7 and the DRAM is 2400 or better, may have problems running it to full spec, for 2400 and up (sometimes 2133 and depending on the i7 even 1866) the non-K CPUs can have problems as depending on the CPU it may require a bit of an OC to run the higher freq DRAM at spec. Contrary to the above opinion, the motherboard does play in as far as DRAM, but the MC (memory controller) of the CPU is the more determining factor, i.e. a stock 4670 isn't going to be able (generally speaking) to run say 2666 DRAM at 2666 regardless of what mobo
Is it a three stick pack by any chance? The only time I've seen the i7 specifically mentioned as part of memory marketing material was when it was a three stick pack designed for the specific early generation i7 chips that were designed for tri channel memory. The memory itself can be used in any compatible motherboard; there's normally a list of compatible motherboards on the manufacturers website.

I was inpart referencing ThatVietGuy and his statement

"RAM depends on the motherboard for the most part, not the CPU"

DRAM being more dependent on the mobo sort of went the way of the 775 mobos, when the MC (memory controller) was on the mobo, and you often had to adjust the the FSB of the mobo to accommodate the higher freqs, that's pretty much moot anymore with the MC on the CPU, so the CPU becomes more the primary factor, granted you still aren't going to run high end sticks on an entry level mobo rated to 1600, but most mainstream mobos like Z97, Z87, Z77 are all rated rather high, but the CPU determines the DRAM pretty much for anything over the CPUs spec
