Hello everyone,

I'm looking to buy the RAM listed in the title.
I've googled it and im sure it'll work fine but I read that its Sandy Bridge optimized so i was wondering if it'd work just as well as i am using a halswell.

Build:
intel i5 4690 3.5ghz
EVGA GTX 960 2gb
Sandisk 128gb SSD
WD blue 1TB HDD
Asus B85M-G chipset
Seasonic G 550W
Generic random DDR3 8gb-> CHANGING THIS

Unfortunately my motherboard isn't really the best and so it only supports up to 1600mhz ( i think) so i can't really get a faster RAM for my halswell CPU, so i was wondering if the RAM i've listed would be fine? Its dual channel so would it be better than my current generic one?

Solution
Well your motherboard is actually good enough and you don't really need more than 1600mhz anyways. Also this memory is in the QVL so it will run.

Thank you!

Unless you are having issues with your current RAM, which you did not specify, there is actually no need to get 2x4GB instead of 1x8GB - having dual channel is nice, but translates into very small real-world performance boost, especially in gaming.

Now, if your current RAM gives you issues, that's a whole different matter and by all means go and replace it. 1600 MHz is fine and you don't need more. It will work.

oh there's nothing wrong with my RAM really, just wanted dual channel cause i heard it was better. But if theres no real difference then id reconsider. Tbh another reason is purely aesthetics...which is kinda dumb i guess?

It is a matter of personal preference, so certainly not "dumb". But certainly not cost-effective :D

I would just keep everything as it is if it works fine. Only once you feel the need for 16GB of RAM, that's when I'd consider an upgrade, not before.
