[SOLVED] G-Sync Laptop to Free-sync Monitor. Not picking up DP

Relevent Specs
Laptop: MSI GS65 9SE (Output, Mini DP, HDMI, USB-C/Thunderbolt3)
Monitor: MSI G271 (Input, HDMIx2, DP)

Issue:
I am trying to enable freesync on my monitor. This thread seems to suggest it is now compatible and can be done (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1021857-g-sync-compatible-master-thread/ ).
My monitor works fine using HDMI, but only gets 120Hz and no g-sync/freesync enabled. So I went and purchased this cable but I get no signal. I have tried power cycling the monitor as a lot of forums suggest with no success. I have read through the 'How to connect a 120Hz Display' thread and seems like for 1080p at 144Hz any display cable will work (which is all I need).

I read on one forum here somewhere that someone had to flash there bios and install a driver remover for the graphics card and reinstall nvidea etc but I would prefer not to do that if possible.

One thing I noticed is that when I unplug either end of the DP cable the monitor recognises that something is being removed and displays 'DP No Signal'. So it seems like the ports themselves are working.

Any help or advise appreciated or even if I am wasting my time. Would love to get freesync working as I hear it's OP playing FPS games.

Yeah could be bad cable. Don't need to uninstall or flash nothing.

Use Hdmi cable and set Hz to 60. Disconnect Hdmi cable altogether and just run the DP cable and see if you get a display.

If that still doesn't work, try turn the monitor off for 10mins and try again. Only have the Displayport cable connected. Having two cables connected to either laptop or monitor could cause issues.

Another alternate cable you could try is an USBc to DP cable. Your laptop supports DP protocol via USBc/Thunderbolt port.

Tried the power cycle again and changing to 60Hz nothing working. I think it maybe just a cheap cable...

Will try one of the DP's suggested 'How to connect a 120Hz Display' forum.

Will let you know.

It was the cable.. tested it in store, worked when I got home also. Not sure why the other wouldn't of worked I would suggest just getting a tested cable from that VESA site to start with.

To get freesync on I went into monitor settings by pressing the button on the monitor, turned on freesync. then right click on desktop and go into nvidea control panel and you should see Setup G-Sync now under Display drop down then just click the enable box and apply.

Yep thats how it's done. Glad it worked out. Plenty of dodgy DP cables out there. I bought a dodgy cable from Centrecom, returned it for another brand from them and still had the same problem i had which was flickering at 144Hz.
