Hi guys! :)
I've been considering buying a G3258 for a couple of months now. Planning to pair it with a 750 Ti and later on upgrade to a K-version i5. However, with BLCK now available on ASRock Z170 MOBOs, switching to LGA 1151 now would make it way easier to upgrade later on.
The PC is going to be used for gaming at 1080p, Medium settings are fine for me and 40 FPS -acceptable.
Price and power usage of the processors do not concern me, the iGPUs don't matter either.

Question:
- How far can the G4400 be pushed in matters of GHz, and if less than the G3258, is the difference so drastic to forfeit the i5 upgrade for a while?

Thanks for answering!

I'm sure you have budget issues, but I would not start with less than a Skylake i3. Modern and future developments will need four simultaneous threads.

I spent a lot of time in the summer overclocking a couple of G3258s. They are very stout chips and overclock easily.

I think that spending any money on a Pentium of any sort would be a waste of money at the moment. If you MUST, then go Skylake. The combination of generational improvement and BCLK should equal or exceed G3258, although each chip is an individual, so the Silicon Lottery matters.

Here's the information I got with the G3258.
