Just built PC using gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo pro mother board.
For initial install of Windows XP I want the following hardware
configuration.

ide1 - dvd writer
ide2 - ATA 100 80 gig drive

sata0 - 160 gig drive raid 0
sata1 - 160 gig drive raid 0

I can see the all the drives on the bios start messages but can not see the
drive in ide2 in the bios setup.

I can do initial boot from CD for windows XP install onto the 80 gig ide2
drive but reboot will not boot.

Can I configure the bios to use this configuration or must the drives in
ide2 and ide3 be built as raid (I will add a second 80 gig drive to ide2 out
of my old PC and run as raid 1 in the future )?

If I move the 80 gig drive to ide1 it will show up in bios.

regards
John

I would have the 80 gig drive on ide1 anyway and the dvd writer on ide2. I
cannot see how the system can possibly boot the way you have it at the
moment. Yes, as you say, as it stands you can boot from CD to start setup,
but the 80 gig drive needs to be master on IDE1 to reboot.

The manual states that the cd/dvd drive must be on ide1 to work.
I have the 80 gig drive configured as master and the dvd writer as slave

Sorry then mate, I just can't see it working that way round and I have no
other ideas really. You could try installing XP with the 80gb disk as the
only one connected, and if that works, add the DVD and sata devices after??

Did you get it going John?
I had a wrestle a while ago with the GA-8195G-Pro which I'm sure is almost
identical with IDE, Raid & SATA setup?
Did you read the thread by "Noel Danjou" on 22/2/2005?
Let me know?
