hello , i bought a p4 2,53 , 512 mb 1066 rimms , GA-8IHXP mobo , geforge 4 4600 (gainward)
i installed it in my chieftec case , but it doesn't do anything , it just beeps 3 times pauzes and again 3 times and so on , is there anybody who can help me with this ?
what can i do , or what is wrong ?

Hi, The PC is not posting and since there's no video, it's giving you an error code in beeps. Check your Mobo manual or call or go onto the Gigabyte site and find out what the beeps mean. It could be a lot of things. good luck.

I'm having same symptoms and posted request for help on 7/15. The 3 beeps refer to "base 64K RAM failure..." and point to either memory or the MB.

http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/ami.htm

I've swapped out memory - no change in symptoms.

I've swapped Video card with older PCI model - No change.

I've emailed Gigabyte from their web site and awaiting
a response. Will share when received.

Pls do likewise.

Same problem here.. tested the RAM on an Intel board, booted up fine.. most likely not your RAM, i bought it recently.. i sent it back to the place i bought it.. i should get a "working" one in 3 weeks or so? It seems gigabyte's GA-8IHXPs are not as reliable as we might have thought...

Update...

My system is now up and running/screaming...

Here's what I learned.

Lesson One: Alienware's Premium Price is Worth it :)

Lesson Two: Computers Make You More Humble

Despite the 3 beeps pointing to memory, I used different memory and got the same result.

I did get a reply from the M-Wave Technician who asked that I remove the MB from the case and reconnect everything to see if system would run out of the case. It did, but I'm not sure why. It also worked after I mounted everything back in the case.

The phrasing of his email led me to believe that he suspected a short between MB and case. With that in mind, I made sure I had the standoffs in the right places and then put the MB back in the case w/o using screws - then added the screws one at a time to determine if anyone of them was shorting out.

I also suspect the problem could have been with the connections I made to the F_Panel header. Getting the Reset Switch on wrong or polarity reversed could cause a problem.
Not sure - just something to double check.

Had the exact same problem as Sluitspier with the three "beeps" and the 1066mhz ram. The problem is not the motherboard or the memory. It is the factory technicians! They test the motherboard before it is shipped with the lower speed 800mhz ram. The mobo is then set to expect this memory when the end-user puts the system together. And thus the meory is not recognized on boot if 1066 is used. What you have to do is remove the CMOS battery and place it back in. The mobo will be "reset" and then on the next boot it will recognize the faster 1066mhz ram. It worked for me the first time, please try....

This is what my upgrade will be except for the chip as it costs $1200 in australia. I will be getting the 2.26. So is this a good mobo????

can anybody confirm what neuro is saying? I just shipped my mobo back... it's gonna take 3 weeks to get back.. sigh.

i wish i had this information earlier.. but is this even true? then why did the box say 1066 supported? and no warning was given to me by technical support?

I ran into this problem last night. No video, just beeping. And after 50 or so retarts with 3 beeps all the time, this thing is driving me crazy.

My GA-8IHXP is using kingston 1066 RDRAM and a 1.6A

Even out of the case and with just those two components pluged in and the switches, it makes those 3 BEEPS!

I think I'm going to try the battery trick one more time.
The funny thing about my board was that there wasn't even a PC1066 memory setting in the BIOS, only PC800 and PC600.

Please help with solution.

Your advice re resetting the CMOS by removing the battery
may be right on track. In my earlier post, I failed to
mention that I had taken that step as well.

This could have been the real resolution versus the
other suspicions I mentioned.

Has anyone been able to confirm what neuro has said. I'm having the same problem - mobo won't recognize the 1066 ram. But, pulling the battery and resetting the cmos to default didn't do any good. I have requested help from Gigabyte (abt 2 wks ago) and haven't heard anything from them. (Except that they would be contacting me "shortly" with a solution!) :-(

I have the same board and had no problems whatsoever. I wouldn't go taking out the cmos battery either. The most logical thing I can think of is that it's a short or the motherboard is bad. I have NTX brand memory and it was detected just fine. What version motherboard does everyone have who have this problem? My version is 3.0. I also know that there was a problem with Kingston PC1066 ram and that Kingston was replacing the bad ram for customers. I'm thinking it's most likely a bad batch of boards from Gigabyte since so many people are having similar problems.

Quick (potential) solutions to this problem:

1) Take the RAM chips out of their slots and put 'em back in ALL THE WAY. Make sure they're all the way in and the locks are closed (that one bit me in the heiney last time around).

2) Reset the CMOS. Gigabyte is kind enough to provide a jumper that you can short to reset the CMOS (see your manual for further instructions). Set the jumper to the correct position, turn the computer on for a few seconds, turn it off again, and remove the jumper. That should do it.

Either solution worked for me. The first time I had the 3x beep, I freaked out...until someone brilliantly asked if I'd reset the CMOS (I hadn't). After doing so, everything worked fine. The second time I experienced this was when I removed the RAM chips (I was replacing them due to a bad stick) and replaced 'em. When I did so, I didn't push hard enough on the RAM stick to get it to lock into place all the way.

Now that I have everything working, the computer screams (the 2.4GHz P4 and Ti4600 help). I'm very impressed with this motherboard, but Gigabyte's support leaves a lot to be desired.

Hope that helps...

This is exactly the reason I will not buy another Gigabyte. I got a bad drivers cd from them and had to email them at least 4 times to get a response. They told me to send them a self addressed envelope to them. I told them I wasn't spending another dime for something they screwed up. Then they said they would send it to me and that was 2 months ago. I haven't seen it yet. I hate bad customer service.

Simon..

I realize the drivers are on thier website but I also had problems with the onboard Realtek ethernet adapter. At times I couldn't get on the internet. But the main point is that it took them way to long to get back to me.
