Hello everyone,

I'm building a computer from zero and having some doubts about which motherboard to choose. I'm gonna use the computer mainly for work (autocad, revit, mathlab etc.), but I intend to play some games from time to time. I'm sure already about getting a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1050ti, so I need a motherboard that can handles it. So, GA-AB350M-DS2 or GA-AB350M-D3H?

(ps: i live in Brazil and here the DS2 is pretty cheaper, but is it worth? A third option would be the GAMING-3).

Buy Asus Prime B350M-A.

It has 2 x 10 Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, whereas MSI has 2 x 0.48 Gbps USB 2.0 ports
It has 6x SATA 3 , whereas MSI has 4 SATA 3 ports
It has 2 x PS/2 keyboard/mouse ports for older keyboard/mouse devices

As of this moment, MSI had a newer BIOS, but new BIOS is expected from Asus soon.

As a rule, if you are stuck between Asus and MSI, buy Asus. If you are stuck between Asus and any other brand at close prices ( say 20 USD ), buy Asus.

The overall motherboard ranking is : 1. Asus 2. Gigabyte 3. MSI 4. Asrock, but for AM4 socket it is 1. Asus 2. Asrock 3. MSI 4. Gigabyte
If I were you, I would stay clear of Gigabyte AM4 motherboards for time being. Maybe Asus or Asrock brands will be better.

But from the two you mentioned above, you should get D3H : it has 2 more RAM slots, 2 more SATA 3 slots, more USB ports - and most important of all has 32 Gbps M.2 port where you can connect NVMe m.2 disks. You might never need these ports, but they will not hurt at all. Nowadays, any motherboard you get should have m.2 slot for future proofing.

Why should I stay away from them?

I don't understand much about motherboards, could you recommend me a cheap one from from these brands you said that can go with the ryzen, the 1050ti
and fits in the profile you described?

Thanks a lot

Gigabyte have the worst vrm's and the worst bioses, they dont seem to have got there act together where AM4 is concerned, they currently sit right at the bottom of the list for all AM4 boards.

Have a look at these boards, a video I watched tonight labelled them as one of the best: https://www.msi.com/Motherboards/ just select the options on the left, ie AM4 and the chipset you're interested in (B350 or X370) etc

I didn't know that about Gigabyte, thanks for the warning. About the msi and asus, here in Brazil they can be very expensive and I can't afford the best ones. But I found these two that I could get: ASUS PRIME B350M-A and MSI B350M GAMING PRO. Would you recommend buying one of them instead of the D3H? Which one?

Thanks!
