Currently running 2x GTX 480 but want 4K so just wondering would 1 or even 2 GTX 980Ti be ok with my current board GA-EX58-UD3R & processor i7 950? I have 12gb corsair veagence RAM also. Dont really know much about the affects of PCI 3.0 etc as my board does not have this but 2 PCI 16x lanes "i think" Kind of noobish with hardware so if anybody can be clear on this i would be greatful for the help.

i want this card is for the smoothest 4K gaming I dont want to run into any problems or atleast minimize it the best i can. I dont want to really pay out for a new board/processor/RAM etc I also have a 750Watt psu

Thanks alot

Oh well that sucks then. Would this solve it? I see one xeon chip for my board?

I just want 4K gaming to be honest.

You might be able to get away with a single card without the bottleneck being too bad. But I'd recommend getting an extreme series CPU on the cheaps from ebay, and save some money instead of upgrading your whole rig.

What would you say is the best for my board right now 1366

How about a Intel i7-990x?

If you can get a decent price on it I'd say go for it. But any of the Extreme series should do you fine.

I found a couple chips for you, but this is NA so you might wanna search around your area.

I just found this Xeon chip would this do the job? Its £203 and the cheapest used 990x is £475 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-Xeon-X5690-Six-Core-CPU-6x-3-46-GHz-Sockel-1366-SLBVX-Core-i7-990X-/261789515665?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3cf3deff91

Just trying to save some money im not rich lol

just looking here i dont see this xeon chip as supported though for some reason?

But i found this one is but will it do the job?

Intel Xeon W3690

This will deffo do the job for sure but you won't be able to OC it at all. Try to find a Extreme series i7 that is compatible with your board. At least the i7 extremes you can OC.

OP, I'd say 400 pounds for a 4 year old chip is a bit pricey, you could get an 4790k and a new board for the same price. So if you're willing to spend 400, I'd say it's the better choice. The W3690 benches about 2000 less than the i7 but you'd get it at half the price, so I'd say buy the 3690. But if you're running with the 3690, just get one 980 Ti.

guys I have almost the same pc, the difference is the motherboard asus rampage 3 extreme, I will do the same process without changing nothing but the two GTX 480, maybe a little overclock anything else, I understand that two of 980ti would be much, I'm not going to play in 4K, I do not care, and I confirmed there is no problem in 1080 or more
