Hello forum!

On 2 September 2018 a pop up window from AORUS APP Center suggested that a Firmware Update was available, without paying much attention I clicked okay and it started the update through the Firmware Engine Utility of Gigabyte which was completed. Once the PC reset, I entered BIOS, a message pop up saying that my Settings RESET to default and I noticed that my BIOS version was the F4 instead of the F7 which I use since early August. I tried to update the BIOS through @BIOS as I thought that my BIOS did a roll back, it read the file until 100% and then nothing happened, I tried to do it from a live server but I was getting "Read BIOS failed" as an error message. I downloaded the F7 Version again, I turned my USB Flash Drive to FAT32 and finally managed to update from F4 to F7. I setup my settings and everything worked.

Though, the following day, once I pressed the power button to run my PC, my PC did 2 consecutive restarts, I entered the BIOS and a message saying that my BIOS settings reset popped up. And indeed, my settings (XMP Profiles, Fast Boot etc) reset to default but the BIOS version remained as F7. The PC fuctioned well since then, well actually it never had an issue apart the BIOS failure after the firmware update (which I have no idea what's going on) and not being able to update through @BIOS.

Meanwhile, I had an e-mail send to GIGABYTE (which took them 3 days to answer), the tech guy said that the F4 version was the backup BIOS (which I had no idea until then) and said that a BIOS update failed (which I never done) and the backup BIOS kicked in. He guided me through with the CMOS stuff and all that, I did everything as he instructed, I got 2 consecutive resets before POST, once the PC posted I entered BIOS, I got the info about BIOS RESET/Settings and I then also did Load Optimized Defaults. The date was the same but the time had a 10 minutes difference. So I can't really tell if that was a success since both version of my BIOS are F7.

Then I tried to change my POST LOGO through @BIOS, it reaches 100% at reading and then nothing happens. I downgraded to F6 Version and it worked fine but then I also tried to update through @BIOS to Ver. F7 but again the app read until 100% and keep closing.

Is my MOBO bricked? Shall I RMA ? I'm a college student in the middle of exams and time is really valuable.

Thanks in advance for any replies!!!

You can try and reflash the BIOS with F7 but with all due respect you should remember never to do what you did in the first place. If reflashing your BIOS doesn't change the issue, RMA it and when you notice that the new(replacement) board has the older BIOS, update the BIOS gradually, that is, F4>F5>F6>F7 if the replacement board shipped with BIOS version F4.

Also you may want to manually input the ram timings, voltage and frequency instead of going with X.MP.

I downgraded and upgraded the BIOS between F6 and F7 and no, @BIOS software doesn't work at all. Do you mean that I should upgrade the BIOS version by version and not going straight to F7 for example if it came with a F4 version?

I have the same board but I have never trusted the APP Centre and simply dont use it. Have you tried updating the bios from the BIOS itself? That has always worked perfectly for me. Download the latest F7 BIOS to a usb and then try to update through the BIOS itself.

Yeah I did, I mean okay I managed to update the BIOS through Q-Flash, but I still can't update the Face Logo while on Version F7, on F6 it works fine, and through F6 it doesn't update to F7. Apart that though, I think the main BIOS is completely bricked, since I tried to reset with CMOS and all, and when I launched my PC it reboot 2 times before it opens and according to Gigabyte the double reboot means the backup BIOS kicks in. Thing is I have updated the backup BIOS as well to F7 cause I had no idea that it was the backup BIOS that kicked in, so now I have both BIOS in F7 and I can't tell if the reset with the CMOS worked at all. The only thing that was different was the time as it declinded 10 minutes than original time after the CMOS reset etc.

Up! Any one else on this? By the way my AORUS APP Center keeps crashing when I try to change the POST LOGO (@BIOS shuts down once reading is complete) while if I try to update to F7 through @BIOS from F6 it crashes on server selection (web) while through File it just says "Failed read BIOS" anyone else can check if these issues exist or is just me?

Thanks in advance !
