[SOLVED] GA-Z97X-UD5H - add SATA III NVME?

hi,

can i add this drive : WD_Black SN750 1TB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND

when i inserted , my PC stopped seeing the existing SSD boot drive.
i have a GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard. Do i need to update the mobo bios ?

1. That NVMe drive is mostly a waste on that motherboard M.2 port. It will ONLY see about 1/2 the actual performance.
2. Use of a drive in that slot disables SATA ports 4 and 5. If your current SSD boot drive is on one of those motherboard ports, move it to a different one.

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4) ?

Which SATA port should I plug the SSD boot drive ?

• The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX8 and PCIEX16 slots. When the PCIEX4 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode and the PCIEX8 will operate at up to x4 mode.
• When installing a x8 or above card in the PCIEX4 slot, make sure to set PCIE Slot Configuration in BIOS Setup to x4. (Refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," "Peripherals," for more information.)

No, you're using the M.2 port. Look under the "Storage" section.

For your current boot drive, there are 6 SATA ports, 0-5.
#4 & 5 are disabled.
Use one of the other 4.

i moved the SSD to another port and it works now after i added the NVME. but the nvme does not show up in file explorer .
