Hello,
I have a GA8Ik1100 (bios FG) MB with this configuration:

- HD Maxtor 20GB master on IDE0
- CD-RW Philips master on IDE1
- HD Maxtor 80GB on SATA

The problem is that it can't boot on Win2000 from SATA
In BIOS:
- Sata is in "Manual" and "SATAPORT0"
- Boot is from "IDE2 = Maxtor80GB...." (if I enable RAID it becomes
SCS0=Maxtor80GB, but I don't want use RAID)

When Win2000 begin installing, I press F6 button and put the disk in the
floppy-reader, then Win2000 shows me the disks, create the partition on
Maxtor80 but then shows a message like "Win2000 can't format this partition
because is incompatible...".
Someone said me that I used incorrect driver on floppy, but I take it from
GigaByte'site (ICH5R SATA-RAID driver).
If the problem is the driver, someone can tell me if exist driver for ICHR5
SATA (only-sata!!) ??
I can't find it on Gigabyte's site, on Intel Site, on CD that cames with
motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

A driver for SATA only for intel's ICH5/ICH5R does not exist.

The problem is Windows 2000. You have to use a version of W2K for
installing, which has intergrated the latest SP. Only then you
successfull.

Hi,

You also have the option of configuring the Intel raid as raid ready. Raid
ready is where you have only 1 drive installed, the raid controller set to
raid, raid drivers installed IE everything ready, but is missing 1 drive.
You can convert to raid 1 or 0 later at run time apparently (I have not
tried it) when you add another drive.

Intel has v3.5 and 4.1 IAA & drivers out. The 4.1 IAA & drivers are really
aimed at the new ICH6R but recognise when they are running on a system that
does not have the required bios (firmware) or elctronic support
automatically. I have v4.1 IAA running on my 8knxp at the moment. The
firmware in bios is v 3.5 - this supports raid ready. You don't need to put
v4.1 IAA in.

So, I suggest you double check your bios version, then consider flicking the
controller over to raid mode and you will need to do an XP repair to install
the raid drivers via F6 as the first thing after changing the controller
mode. If you do not install the drivers via F6 you will get a BSOD.

XP Service Pack 2 is due out soon - complete with an inbuilt firewall, so
this is a good time to contemplate upgrading.

I've tryed with WinXP bun with no success !! Sigh!
Same problem: WinXP recognize the two HD as:

- Somethyng like "ID=0 Lun=0 on atapi" [My IDE on primary master]
- Somethyng like "ID=0 Lun=0 on atapi" [My SATA on SATAPORT0]

The same HD !!!!
And when I choose first partition SATA where install, Win goes on first HD
[IDE] !!

If I switch on the raid in BIOS (SATA as RAID) and use F6 option to load
the ICH5R driver, the situation is :

- Somethyng like "ID=0 Lun=0 on atapi" [My IDE on primary master]
- Somethyng like "ID=0 Lun=0 on iaStor" [My SATA on SATAPORT0]

But WinXP does the same as previous case....

Please someone help me...
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the very good description from Zac:

1. get the latest bios for the 8ik1100 rev 2 and update

2. Connect the DVD drive as master to the primary IDE channel and the
sata to port A/0 (not b)

3. in the bius, hit control-f1 to get advanced mode

4. set the sata mode to manual, serial ata 0 (not auto, not remap to
ide)

(you will reboot and see cdrom on device 0 master and the HD on device
2 master.

5. make sure the boot sequence shows your sata drive first (but the
first boot device is still cdrom)

5. download and make the ICH4 floppy from intel, even though you
aren't using raid i had to use this driver to make the xp install
work.
ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/6364/eng/iaar2_floppy.exe

6. start xp install, use F6 and the floppy above to specify the intel
drivers, and you should be good to go.

I am using still UDMA for booting, On SATA Port0 I have connected a
Samsung SP1203N with a Serial ATA t.ATA 133 Converter from Silico
Image. On Port1 I will connect the Plextor PX-712SA.

Yes.
I've temporally disabled (from bios) the HD from IDE1 (i've forced hd type
to NONE but IDE1 remained enabled).
So I booted with only CDROM on IDE2master and HDSATA from SATAPORT0.
After installation (using F6 function) of WXP I re-enabled HD on IDE1 and
now all seems to be OK.
Thanks to all.
