Gaining full access to HDD Storage Space

For some reason I am unable to access the full 3TB of my new HDD. It's an entirely new system. I followed instructions for a partition management process, going to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management. This helped me unlock the central partition (2TB) but I am unable to access the other TB, any clues?

I assume you are NOT on Windows 3.11, Win95 / Win98.... See the thread below (or hit Google). Your keys here will be around using GPT instead of MBR... Be sure to back up your data!

I'm on Windows 8.1 64bit.

I did not manually partition the HDD, it happened during the install of Windows. I don't really understand how to use GPT or MBR, I just followed a guide which told me to do the 'New Simple Volume' option for the HDD as it wasn't registering on My Computer. I've got the 1.99TB available now but how do I go about changing the other parts to make the full 3TB available?

I used Seagate Discwizard to make the 750GB accessible, seems to have worked, just has it set as a separate drive in My Computer.
