GALAX Hall of Fame GTX970 very fast fan speed - unnaturally loud

I recently acquired a GALAX HOF GTX970 graphics card and after installing it on my pc, its fan seemed to spin too fast to be normal - I know this because I have seen my friend's GTX970 and it is not as loud. After checking Speedfan, the temperatures were not even high, 35 celsius only.

Here is some of my build

• 
  Galax GTX 970
  i7-4790
  Aerocool GT 700W PSU
  Gigabyte H97 Gaming 3

Please help suggest reasons for this and ways to troubleshoot this issue, I am quite concerned by the loudness of this video card...

I'd install Precision X and try to set a custom fan profile. There is also a dedicated thread for HOF card owners here if you want more information. Looks like others have had similar issues:

Probably too late to answer this, but have you checked the fan boost button in the back of the card, just a simple switch for faster fan speed.

You've saved my ears!!!

I've been suffering with my brother's card noise for more than a month til now.
I can't stand it anymore so I'm looking up for some solutions.
I really have no idea how my brother has been living with it for months.
He may have been accidentally pushed the button you have mentioned.
So I simply pushed it back and all the problems were gone!!! Yayyyyy!!!!! 😀
