Game controllers not working on my PC

I've tested a ps3 and a xbox 360 controller on my pc. The sound is played when they are plugged in and I have installed all the drivers (windows and third party) to try and get them to work, but still no luck. Even though they are detected from being plugged in and windows goes though installing some of the driver for it, it still doesn't work or appear in the game controllers window: https://gyazo.com/42cd51a53f210da14bca6de9e29cc6b9

(Running on win 10 64 bit BTW)

Any help and suggestions would be great!

Thanks

It's because MS has bullied their way to having most game developers using very specific xinput files for the pc 360 controller. Over the course of the last 20 years they've all but dominated the pc market now. The only aftermarket controllers that will get read on their own in games use it.

However there is a workaround that I found last year:

Sometimes very easy to use, sometimes a little tricky. You have to set it up for each game(copy needed files into the games root .exe directory) but once done you're set. I used it for my laptop so I could use a bluetooth android game controller and not have any dongles or cords.

Years ago I also tried to set up the bluetooth PS3. Its doable but usually has to rewrites your bluetooth firmware which totally disables any normal bluetooth devices and you have to reinstall your factory firmware/drivers to re-enable thus being a total pain. X360ce is by far the easiest thing I've found to get out of the MS controller strangehold.

My controller isn't being picked up by the program

If you go to control panel>devices and printers, is it shown there?

close the program. unplug the controller, plug back in, if your using the xbox controller, make sure its turned on before starting x360ce and that windows and has installed the drivers again. Also go to windows control panel>devices and printers to see if the controller is shown. Then if it is start x360ce again.

Controller gets installed as this :https://gyazo.com/542a41f46c8f64e3614bb84fbd1c4fd5
And then never gets picked up after that by any program

Did a little research about that xbox controller. If its the one for the console(i.e. not for windows) then you'll need to purchase a receiver dongle for it. Both ps3 and xbox controllers use a proprietary bluetooth signal. As I mentioned in my first post, I know of ways you can get the ps3 to work, but its a real pain. I don't know of a way to get the xbox to work wirelessly. The play & charge is something related to the console xbox controllers. No significant data is actually transmitted, just voltage for charging. I found this on a steam forum:

"WIRED Xbox controllers work just fine on a PC. I've complted the game once (on Easy mode, as I usually suck at games liek this, but love superheroics and such), and I've played the whole way through with my wired Xbox controller.

WIRELESS xbox controllers require you to also own a specific "wireless Xbox controller receiver for PC" device, which plugs into the USB port. You _have_ to have one of those receivers, because the cord of a play-n-charge kit DOES NOT CARRY DATA, only power for the wireless controller's battery.

...

I wonder if the next-gen controllers will be Bluetooth devices? That'd be hella handy, if they did ... [/quote]

YES!! Thank you! I agree with McAdamstry. I find an extra wired controller and now am unstoppable!! muwhaha!!"

So in order to get that controller to work you're going to need to get a usb receiver for it. If you do, you won't need x360ce, it will be identified as a 360 controller and should work as plug 'n' play for all modern games.

For what its worth if you want to try a different thing and you're going to buy something here's the controller I use with my laptop via normal bluetooth and x360ce(I've gotten it to work with every game from the last 5-7 years that usually looks for a 360 for windows controller:All batmans, gtav, metro's, crisis, witcher's, mordor, assassin creed's, tesv, alien games, you name it). I don't even have to re-map the buttons or anything, it just works.

If you start researching any other controllers, just make sure they use modern xinput and you won't have to deal with any of these issues(micro ctrlr doesn't which is why I had to learn about x360ce).

I totally understand and agree. It's not widely publicized how MS screwed over the PC gaming community over the last 10 years with their monopolized controller support. Those of us who were gaming on PC's in the early 2000's had to deal with it happening almost overnight when a new game came out and suddenly your non-MS controllers were no longer 'seen' either.

Take care and sorry I couldn't give you and easier answer to use.
