I believe everyone playing a fps game should know this.
remember those time you were using snipers and the enemy was too close you just have to quick scope? a bit hard without a crosshair to aim with right? some suggest you should just put a mark with a watermarker on your monitor.

but is there a software to do this instead?

Such software may be seen as a cheat by game anti cheat measures.

I think some Asus screens had it built in as an option.

Overlays like those used by some hardware monitoring and other in game displays should work.
For the hell of it Google gives this option.

Remember the warning however.

I've been using a Mumble crosshair overlay for over a year now, maybe two. Just follow the tutorial here: http://ozfortress.com/showthread.php?t=63309

A couple of things not mentioned are that the crosshair you use needs to be a .png (for transparency) of 90x90 pixels (that's the size avatars in mumble have with the default overlay scale) and that you should add the games where you want the crosshair to the overlay exceptions whitelist so that you don't have a crosshair in EVERY game (you certainly don't want one in 2D games and shooters like ARMA which have a moving crosshair)

This is almost definitely not going to get you banned by any AC since all you're doing is changing your avatar in mumble and then moving the avatar to the center of your screen
