Games between friends

Hi,

You all seem a friendly bunch so I'll ask a question:

I'm fairly new to diplomacy but have played a few games, on the judges and
Bounced, and some of my friends from work are interested in playing and are
keen to see how it works.

Where's the best place for me to start a game and take them through the
rules, orders and PBEM nuances. I believe GM's aren't allowed to play in
their own game, but since there's only three of us this would be necessary.

Also, how's best for only three of us to start a game? We'd need standard
rules. Are there any three player variants on the judges that would be
suitable for learners or should we play the standard game with multiple
powers for each player.

Any tips on converting them would be gratefully received 🙂

Cheers,
Chris

No, it's not necessary. You can find a volunteer to serve as Master. It
shouldn't
be hard if you post a request on this group.

The Hundred variant is designed for three players, but it's not on the
Standard map. If you have to play on the Standard map, then your only real
choices are (a) play "Duplex" with 3 players, each controlling either two or
three powers, but this will be very unbalanced in favor of the one who gets
the third power; or (b) recruit 4 more players.

If you like, I could GM a game of Hundred variant for you on the
judges. If your friends are new to the game and don't fancy using the
judge interface, they could just send me their orders by email in plain
text and I could input them myself as GM.

Contact me on peter(dot)clarkson(at)some(dot)ox(dot)ac(dot)uk if you're
interested; it's very easy to GM a game on the judges, especially if
it's just an informal one between friends.

Yours,
Pete.
