Sorry, in advance if this is dumb or whatever I'm not super knowledgeable on overclocking.

So I had a gtx 960 G1 4GB and whenever I tried to oc it like +25 core +50 mem is all I could get without it crashing while gaming. I thought it was just the card being old or something, but I recently got a 1080TI AMP which I know isn't the newest but it is newer, and it's still crashing while gaming on a low oc. The very most I could get out of it was +75 core and +100 mem and even then it crashes sometimes but it's fine when it's not oc'd. I don't think it's the temps because the tempsnever go over like 70 c. I just wanna know what the problem is because I read online about other people getting a stable like +200 core and +500 mem. I have tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling old ones and stuff but none of it has worked

Pc specs:
Windows 10 64 bit
Cpu i7 8700k @4.77 GHz
Gpu 1080TI AMP
Ram 32 Gb 2800 GSkill Trident Z Quad-channel
PSU EVGA 850 G+

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When you say recently, do you mean to say you picked up an used card? If so, then you might want to ask/learn/know the history behind the GPU since mined GPU's will be afflicted with damage and the inability to overclock or exhibit artifacting. How old is the PSU in your build? BIOS version for your motherboard?

When you dropped in the GTX1080Ti, did you use DDU to rid your platform of all prior GPU drivers before you removed the GTX960 G1 from your platform? When reinstalling GPU drivers source the latest from Nvidia's support site and install them in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Yeah I picked up a used one, the guy said id had just been used by his brother for gaming and it wasnt ever mined on. I bought the psu brand new about 2 years ago. I just updated the bios the other day and its the gigabyte z390 aorus master with bios version F11 When i got the card i did not use ddu but i did about 2 weeks after when i was still having this issue. Should i try using it again?
