The title might seem like a software problem but I recently reset my computer with the windows reinstallation disk so I don't think its a program causing it.

The reason I need help is because my games are randomly freezing after I play them for a Little bit. There isn't really a common theme with how frequently they occur but I never get to play for more than a few minutes. Right now I have 3 games since I reset my computer. CSGO, H1Z1, and Rocket league. On csgo I get a error where it says "total static audio channels have been used: 96" and then it freezes and I have to ctrl+alt+del to make it start running correctly again just to get the same error minutes later. I tried to fix this error for a long time, and eventually gave up and tried to play other games but NO games will let me play for more than a few minutes.

I have updated all my sound drivers but the problem never stopped. On h1z1 the game just stops responding.. Same on rocket league. Also minecraft acts like it is lagging in single player, I can break blocks but they don't drop.

Last night I took out one of my sticks of ram and was able to play two death matches without haveing this issue and was able to play h1z1 for 15 minutes before going to sleep and I thought it was fixed. But after windows made me install 3 critical updates this morning it was broke again..

I need help figuring out what is making my games stop responding.

My gpu is cool enough. Around 50 Celsius usually when running a game. I Thought my psu could be the problem but best buy told me that the psu can't fail on a desktop and it couldn't be the problem. My motheeboard might be to blame? Idk anything about motherboards. My computer is only about 2 years old. Any suggestions will help. I cannot try any suggestions until later tonight, I'm at college right now and have to drive home before I can try any. I really don't want to have to break down and take it to best buy and spend a couple hundred for them to just look at it.

Almost forgot: here are my specs off the top of my head, tell me if you need any more info.

-Gpu gtx GeForce 770 4gb
-i7 4770 processor
-motherboard is gigabyte1150 socket. Ga-z87x-hd3
Power supply is 600 watt
-I have two monitors
-sound blaster audigy r/x I think
-2 tb hard drive.. I have defragmented it.
-Ram is 2x8gb sticks ripjaws. It is a red stick, don't know specs off the top of my head.
-k70 rgb red cherry keys keyboard
-rival series optical gaming mouse
-astro a50s
I have the two fans on my gpu and two more fans in my case. The heat shouldn't be the problem.
..trying to think of everything, hope I got it let me know if I skipped something

Thanks,
-levi

Advanced warfare froze just a couple minutes into clicking play. I think its the kernal drivers that stop responding and they recover.

The motherboard could be defective even though the 970 works fine?

im not sure how to use the memtest86+.. I download the iso and put it on a disk?

Could i try updating my bios? I'm not sure how to do it either. But there might be an update

I didn't figure out how to do the memtest, but I did a windows memory diagnostics or something that told me I had no errors with my ram. I don't see how the 970 works perfectly on my motherboard but my 770 doesn't :/. One thing different is a adapter or something that connects to the pci-e cable to allow the cables to connect to the gpu. Should I try to witch me and my brother's motherboards to see if that helps anything? Or should I just see if he wants to swap gpus with me and put this all behind? lol

If switching the PSUs didn't help, then I doubt switching the motherboards will. Explain what you mean by "One thing different is a adapter or something that connects to the pci-e cable to allow the cables to connect to the gpu." When using the other PSU, did you use what you refer to as an adapter? The PSU has to provide the required PCI-e cables; adapters shouldn't be used. If your PSU is http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017 then it includes the required 1 x 6-Pin and 1 x 6+2-Pin connectors.

I'm going to try to figure out how to put a picture on here. Its a small wire about 3 inches long that plugs into the pci-e cable that allows it to plug into the gpu. I don't have that psu in my computer right now, i have my brothers Hpg-600st-f125 high power psu. It's also 600 watts. I'm not sure if these are adaptors or what, I'm going to try to post a picture. One sec

I did use the "adapters" when using the other psu.

My gpu just might be broken. It is not working in my brothers computer anymore. How do I do a RMA or should I upgrade to the 970.

Right now it is working in my brothers pc.. but only at half capacity i think. It is only getting 40 fps in the furmark test, it used to get 80. But it isn't crashing in his. We are just going to keep it like this for a while and when the 770 finally dies then I guess i'll figure out how to rma it or just buy the 970.

I think MSI is my manufacturer. Do I call them and ask or do I need to email someone?

I'm not sure if it will still be under warranty. It has been a while, maybe close to 2 years

I got it in april of 2014

Their support site says "The warranty term differs from one region to another. If you would like to verify the warranty term of the product bought, please kindly contact our local offices." It probably has a 3 year warranty, but only you or MSI can confirm when it was manufactured. http://msi.com/page/warranty/

"(R9 290 GAMING 4G refer to product name, 1401 represents manufacture year as 2014, subsequent 2 digits represent manufacture month as January)"

Mine is 1403 as the year and 06 as the month. I'm not sure what the 1403 refers to.

oh im sorry, i didnt understand how the system worked, I thought 1403 was the code for the year and 06 was the month lol.. but i understand now.
