Is it true that most or all media downloads (music, games, shows, movies) are just licenses to play that media? So no resale value if so?

Yep, they have pretty much managed to kill the second hand games market.

The real downside to me, is that in the past if you bought a game and it did not really do it for you, it could always be sold, and at least recoup some of the money spent .

These days I am very cautious about what I buy, slightest thought it may not be 100% for what I'm looking for, I don't buy. Simple as that.

Yeah basically. Like if I download Skyrim off of Steam, I have no resale value like I would with a physical copy (unless I sell my entire account). Sorry if I'm just assuming things, I'm new to PC gaming, and this is just something I've heard.

If you download a game on Steam for yourself, you cannot 'sell' it to anyone else, unless you're selling the entire account.

So yes, there's no 'resale value' so to say, with individual games in your Steam library and you'll get something worth only if you're selling your entire account.

well this kinda sucks. I mean I still like pc gaming more than consoles, but I guess I'll have to be careful when buying games. At least Steam doesn't charge tax, and is in general cheaper than a physical copy.
