Games keep crashing after 5-10 minutes of game play

Specification:
i7-3770 Intel CPU
AMD RADEON HD 7970
700W Xigmatek PSU
8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)
Asus P8Z77-V

I have been having a problem with PC in that when I play games for 5-10 minutes they immediately crash.

They used to crash after 2 minutes but I found the GPU was reaching temperatures of 90+ degrees. So I covered the rear panels for the cards (I Had removed them and lost them), inserted a rear fan pumping air out, I have added a support for the GPU so it doesn't sag and applied new thermal paste to the GPU. From a resting temperature of about 50oC, it is now at 38/40oC and when a game is played it reaches maximums of 72oC.

But even with this better cooling system, my PC crashes after 5-10 minutes on any game. It doesn't completely crash, it just comes up with "X.exe has stopped working".

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a front facing fan and a rear facing fan (exact specs are unknown), I have the standard cooling fan for the CPU that came with the i7 (expecting a new one soon).

It will be your graphics card overheating , I think

In catalyst control center check your fan speed . Is it set to auto? Or have you set the speed manually .
Try a higher speed setting and see if that makes a difference

It is set to Automatic, will run a test with a game kept on for about 20 minutes and get back to you
