cpu and gpu are watercooled

hello all, ive been having some trouble lately with every game i own, i can play them for like 5 mins before they crash. some crashes force me to reboot some just shut down the game
any help would be greatly appreaciated

ive been watching temps and nothing seems wrong in that department im wondering if its a software issue or something like that?
ive noticed that during the crashes my gpu usage drops to 0
i trying reinstalling drivers with no luck and updating everything...
nothing seems to help and im at a loss here
ive been able to play everything without issues in the past so i dont rly know whats going on

thanks for your time and help!
pls let me know if i can provide any additional info

That's the tricky part about PCs, is it can be hard to diagnose problems like this. Could be so many different things, and what you'll need to do is rule things out one at a time.

Thoughts:
Bios update
You said temps are fine, but just to confirm, what are they when gaming?
What make/model is that PSU, and how old is it?
Anything overclocked? Dial it back maybe and see if that fixes you up.
Run memtest
chkdsk

I know most people don't, but if you have a second system, or a friend who can help, swap out parts to troubleshoot.

Starting point at least. I hope you find the problem soon!

so the temps are at 22c for both cpu and gpu at idle and cpu doesnt go higher than 60 while gaming and gpu no higher than 40
i am using the core p5 case though and so there are no fans and the mb reaches 50c sometimes

but i was able to play with the same set up without any issues until i updated everything, thats why i believe its a software issue

psu is evga 750 platinum, 1.5 yrs old now

im gonna try to reinstall the nvidia drivers bc i noticed that i couldn't access the n control panel today

oh and yes everything is oc lol but i tried turning it off and that didnt do anything.. i tried a mem test and it said nothing was wrong

thanks for ur help! :)

well reinstalling the nvidia drivers did nothing and i tried rolling back the drivers, i was able to play for awhile but then it crashed again
i noticed that gpu usage spikes to 100 then drops to 0 when crash occurs..

well it looks like i found the problem... not sure what this means tho
if i reduce the clock on gpu and reduce voltage by 10, everything seems to work!
does that mean my psu isn't drawing enough power? could that be the issue

my full specs are
asus maximus viii hero (w?)
i7600k (91w)
16 gb ram, 8x2 (w?)
sumsung tb ssd (w?)
3 120 nzxt rgb fans plus nzxt hue (w? hue volts 5)
rgb ek reservoir that is plugged into gpu 0 (w? 5 or 12v?)
spare rgb strip that i attached to gpu 0 plus built in water block lights that are also connected to gpu 0 (w? 5- 12v?)
ek pump d5- EK-DDC 3.2 PWM Elite Edition ( w? molex)
7 inch rasberry pi screen that is powered by pc ( w?)
asus wifi card (w?)
8 thermaltake rgb hard tube fittings (3v? molex connection via contoller)
1 asus gtx 1080 ti strix (250w)
1 asus gt 710 passively cooled (19w)
evga 750 plat

360- ? watts being used
im also using sleeved cable extensions, im not sure if that does anything the psu

the last hardware changed that occurred before this bug was the addition of the rgb fittings..
i was able to play without issue though for a few days after the changes while everything was oc
the crashes really started when i updated my driver plus i unplugged my weaker gpu and the problem persisted
i also reinstalled windows before reducing gpu voltage which might have been part of the solution? but crashes still occurred before reducing gpu voltage

It sounds like you're narrowing it down for sure. Either the OC was simply too aggressive, or there is a problem with the PSU I'd think. You have more than enough watts, so that's not it.

With a custom loop, temps aren't the problem. Is it a full cover block?

If you haven't already, I'd run some stress tests with the GPU at stock just to confirm you've found the problem.

yes, it is a full cover block and temps on the gpu nvr go above 40c while gaming even with oc

the thing is i have the 1080ti oc edition, so im not too sure what to do from here and how to stress test it. i tried fur mark while the oc was active (just clicking oc mode in asus gpu tweak ii) and everything seemed ok
what kind of stress test should i run?

sorry im not very adept at these things yet..

update : i was able to leave the clock speed as is, and by lowering volts by 10-20 i was able to stop my games from crashing

Interesting on lowering the voltage and that working. Is that at stock, factory OC settings only, or also good with your OC?

Undervolting won't hurt anything of course. If the card doesn't get the power it needs, you'll immediately know. Crash/blue screen etc. But I'm wondering WHY you'd need to undervolt to run stable, especially at stock speeds. Something seems fishy. I'd lean more towards a GPU issue over a PSU issue at this point.

it has been left at the stock oc. nvr pushed beyond that. the only settings ive changed on the gpu is clicking oc mode or silent mode in asus gpu tweak

i noticed something new today, while playing bf1, the under-volt didnt do anything to prevent a crash. however this time i noticed that disk usage dropped to 0% when the crashed occurred, this was seen in task manager. however games like PUBG and Hunt showdown have been running well with the under-volt.

oh and ive been lowering power percentage bar not volt bar in gpu tweak ii

well i think i finally fixed it.
in GPU tweak ii theres a slider called " GPU Boost clock(MHz) " under professional mode.
at 0, the clock is set to 1683 but when i game gpu hits 2000
i slid it down to 1598 (-90) and now in game i get a constant 1850
no more crashes, temps are good and fps is smooth
gpu does rarely hit 100 usage but doesnt drop back down to 0 and crash when it does anymore 👍

looks like volts had nothing to do with it

@jimthenagual, thx for ur help!

hey there, so i think im closing in on the issue

ive tested the hardware and it all works fine, i learned about event viewer and discovered that every time the game crashes is bc the applications have been blocked from using gpu

i get warning "Application bf1.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware."

and error : "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

im going to see how to fix that

i fixed error : "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}

now im stuck with "Application (any game) has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware."
i dont get a notification, GPU usage spikes to 100 then drops to 1-2 when game crashes, the message quoted above only appears in event viewer

the other two monitors are extended not cloned

i did everything on that page and bought drive easy.. it didn't work

Try this, it has worked for some people.

open defender security center>> then virus and threat protection>> then virus and threat protection settings and scroll down to controlled folder access and toggle that switch to off.

Mine was actually defaulted to off so this info may be old. Then again, I'm on a Window's Insider version of Windows. Give it a try.

mine was already set to off, im using bitdefender
