I have been thinking about building a gaming of and this is what I am thinking of building:

Could anyone please give me any advice on the build.

I'd match the Z97 board with a k series processor or an H97 board with the CPU you picked.

first off, the parts look good.

secondly, don't build right away. wait till the skylake platform comes out and gets benchmarked. seeing how you chose a locked cpu and a entry level z97 mobo, a locked skylake i5 cpu (as long as it performs higher) and a z170 mobo will be better option for you.

that seasonic psu is good but it's an old model. the s12g series is newer.

Nvidia maybe, because it have fancier naming for it's cards, and can optimize games for your build with it's software.

Thanks for all your help. Won't a comparable skylake processor and a z170 mobo be a lot more expensive for very similar performance

unlikely to be a lot more expensive but we don't have concrete info on the pricing. leaks showed comparable pricing with 10-30 bucks offset. take it with a grain of NaCl. real, retail early parts can be more expensive depending on actual market situation.
