Hi,

Can you please tell me what the best computer I can get for £400?

Computer will be for gaming and trying to hit 60hz on hign settings on all modern games. Can you list pre-built one is possible as this is easier.

Solution
At the moment there is a problem with gpu shortages and some cpu shortages. Even without the inflated prices it would be tough to build a gaming tower for £400 to achieve 60fps @ 1080p using secondhand parts.

Have you considered console? I know the latest generation are largely over budget but it’s impossible to build a pc at similar price to a console and achieve the same performance. Do you have a specific reason for looking at a pc?

Unfortunately that’s a very difficult question to answer. Some are saying in a few months times, others are saying it will be 2022 and then there is everything in between.

As I am trying to look for a computer for a friend. But how are people who are new to gaming on PC suppose to get good prices in this day and age? Are gaming PC not that good anymore for the price they cost and should just go to console?

At the price of console the latest generation are very good. I have read both Sony and Microsoft sell their consoles at a small loss and the hook is then buying games, accessories and subscriptions is where they make money. It does depend on what you want. If only looking to play low graphic esports titles it is far easier to build a cheap pc, but if you want to play the latest AAA games I feel you can’t really compete with console at the console price range. In my opinion the the difference between pc and console is getting smaller. Another reason you may pick pc over console is if you want all games to use keyboard and mouse.

But even the new Xbox are all sold out 😂

Hello there!!
Just gonna give my opinion, there is a mismatch between your budget and your expectation 1080p 60fps on all modern games-Ok but at £400?-No. True that the current scenario is bad but when things get back in stock dont expect the price to be back at launch prize. If you are also in need of a pc now go with the apu 3400G if available and throw a dgpu later, else try upgrading what you have.

That is not going to happen your budget is to low. You might be able to find a used PC that can get close to that and run a lot of games on high for 400 but not most of the newest games.

this will work as a PC for now:

when supplies improve in the summer, you can swap in a 3000 or 5000 series cpu and a real gpu

the 2200 will do most games at low-to-medium, at 720p or 768p. the 500W psuu will take a 1660/2060/3060 on the nvidia side, and a 5600/5700 (and theoretical 6600/6700) on AMD side

How much extra would it be to add a decent budget GPU to the build ?

That is true. As with my own computer I have a GTX 1080ti and I am trying to upgrade my GPU to RTX 3080 but they are all sold out!
