Gaming Dad Headset

Hey, I am new here, but I have been having trouble finding a solution so wanted to ask.

I recently moved, and in my new house my office/gaming space is between my bedroom where my 1yr old and my wife sleep as well as next to the room where my 3 yr old sleeps. So have been forced from my old ways of using speakers, to a headset.

I am looking for a headset, or a solution like LifeMix, where I can hear outside sounds, like my daughter waking up. If possible I do not want to break the bank, but price is negotiable.

Also a Mic would be nice, but honestly I do not care.

Thanks for the info!

Really, what you probably want to look for in this case is a headset that has an open back. They allow you to hear sounds around you, but the sound, while it does leak a lot more as a result, isn't typically loud enough to be heard in other rooms.

As for an exact recommendation, you'll have to be more specific; I'm not sure what price doesn't break your bank.

You just need to get an open-backed headset, but nothing will pipe in exterior sounds to you to keep you from missing things unless you play on low volume.

I don't know if that LifeMix thing you talked about has actual mics to the outside that they blend in with headset audio or not.

Try these, decent price Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009S333U4/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=wirerealm-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B009S332TQ&linkId=ad6744eef4f50b20af54bff0361845ed&th=1

The Audio Technica that nine-ball recommends is absolutely bananas, one of the best open-back recommendations under $100. At $200, Massdrop has their Sennheiser HD-650 variant, the Sennheiser HD-6xx (there's no difference in the audio, just colors and slightly different construction) available every few months.

So I would love to spend less than $100 but am willing to go up to 200.

Also I am interested in the open end headphones, and will look into the Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X

On a side note, does anyone know about using sidetone to bring in audio from the area around you. The reason I mentioned LifeMix above is because it literally uses the mic on the system, or mics added to bring in outside noise. But that system costs around $900 so a little more than I want to spend.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

the ATH-AD500X is an excellent choice, personally I am using a Samson SR850 which is semi-open with a clip mic (the Zalman ZM-Mic1, but any cheap lapel clip mic will be just as well).

Forget the audio mixer, just use a baby monitor with a visible sound meter, even the cheap ones like this one will flash the LED when it detects sound. Keep it next to your monitor / keyboard, this is what I did when my kids were younger it works perfectly.
