Hi, guys.
I've just bought a new GPU from MSI: RTX 4070 Ti Super MSI Expert with dual fan setup.
I put it into my current rig while waiting for future upgrades:
Windwos 11 24H2
Ryzen 5 3600
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
16GB RAM DDR4 2.6
I know that this setup will not show all the potential of the new GPU, but the problem is not with card's perfomance.
PROBLEM:
When not under load, GPU fans don't spin at all. I guess this is normal for modern GPUs.
When you give it some load and temps start to rise around 40-50 degress (f.e. by opening a game for a few sec) fans become activated in the following manner: LEFT FAN starts noramlly, following some default curve base on its RPM, but RIGHT FAN goes straight to 100% and sounds like a jet.
Both fans does not react to MSI afterburner at all, neither to automatic curve nor to manually controlling the RPM. Both of the fans just don't response.
However, I am able to control LEFT FAN with FanControl software. When I try to control RIGHT FAN through the same soft it goes right straight to 100%. Even if I set it to a flat curve of 0%.
WHAT I'VETRIED:
1) Tried both latest (566.36) and previous (566.14) Nvidia drivers. Reinstall was performed with DDU cleanup.
2) Tried to do different sort of calibrations with FanControl for the RIGHT FAN. No result. RPM is not shown for RIGHT FAN even if it runs at 100%. (But it is shown perfectly fine for the LEFT FAN). Given that even 0% flat curve produces 100% for the RIGHT FAN I guess it's not something with FanControl.
3) Updated motherboard BIOS to the latest version.
4) Ejected GPU and Inserted it back, to fix any PCI connection issues.
5) Completely reinstalled MSI Afterburner and RTST from latest stable to latest beta version.
Neither of the mentioned actions improved the situation.
NOTES:
The strange thing is that on startup both GPU fans run in tandem with the same idle RPM, and then completely stop once Windows boots up. I believe it shows that RIGHT FAN is capable of running under not 100% RPM, and I hope that this is a software issue, not a hardware one. But I've tried all I can find to mitigate this issue from soft perspective.
Also I'm aware that this GPU is for PCIe Gen4 and my motherboard supports only Gen3 one. But it should only affect the perfomance, and not be the reason for such weird FAN behavior.
So maybe I'm missing something? I'm not really into modern GPUs and this is my first experience with such. The only thing I haven't tried is to clean reinstall of Windows. But it seems a bit of an overkill, given that I used DDU to clean up GPU related stuff.
Given that the GPU is new, I can try to replace it. But first I'd like to try all the possible fixes for that.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
