Hey guys and girls,

So I just recently purchased a new 4k television which I am using for a PC monitor. I made a few upgrades to my rig to help support it. Prior to the upgrades i was running at 80+ fps at 1080 by 1920. My current specs are:

CPU: AMD 6300 8 core
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 1060 6G
16 G of RAM
700watt PSU

I am running unigine benchmark test at 4k on extreme and getting an average of 70 fps. However when I run World of Warcraft at a 7/10 graphics setting I am only getting 20-40 fps.

(Note: My brother had essentially an identical rig built about a year ago, with a 960 Asus Strix card for GPU and a 4k monitor instead of a TV and was seeing 100-120 fps on world of warcraft with near identical results in his benchmark test.)

What could be the issue?

Solution
I am not sure that a 960 card running at 4k will be able to play WOW at 100 fps at 7 setting. UserBenchmark site lists a 960 at "High" settings at 1440 at 67FPS average. Granted not a lot of samples but well bellow 100-120 at 4k which is nearly double the pixels of 1440.

http://www.userbenchmark.com/PCGame/FPS-Estimates-World-of-Warcraft/3882/22173.0.High.1440p.0

If we go with 1440 getting 67 fps, then getting 40 fps at 4k is normal.

Also keep in mind benchmark in one thing does not equal same FPS in another. WOW depends on different things for performance, not just your local computer speed.

His CPU before and after upgrades is the AMD 6300 8 core. It just doessnt make sense to me because it was the same CPU I used with a 4k screen and a lesser graphics cars on the same visual settings in game and had much higher performance.
