I am about to buy a laptop and have found this site

http://3xs.scan.co.uk/custom/professional-gaming/laptop

Has anyone else had experience with the 3XS Graphite? It looks to good to be true.

Also I am deciding between the options of 'SSD' and 'mSATA Solid State Drives' can someone please enlighten me to the differences and which one to go for?

Thanks in advance, Mark

yeah i woundn't trust it. never heard of the brand and that's way too cheap. if you want a gaming laptop stick to better names like msi, you'll pay a fair bit more but: you get what you pay for! i'd hate for you to save a few hundred to have to turn around and spend double that to fix it later on.

We're SCAN Computers... and this is how we roll.

These have been award winners for us this year. Clevo are one of, if not the biggest brand of custom laptop hardware that's around these days, we take their kit and include high end parts which are all certified for gaming use in this chassis. They're top performers.

Did you place the order in the end Mark?

Maybe it's a UK thing but here in the US I've never seen any brand that's labeled "SCAN" or even heard of it, so this is the reason some of us are weary of him purchasing off your website. How did you come across this thread anyways? Not a big deal just weird that you happened to stumble upon this thread!

Scan is a small business in the uk which builds their own computers (called the 3xs systems) and only has one store worldwide but they ship worldwide. I have personally used their computers in the store and they are brilliant! The only place you can get them from is from their store in bolton, manchester, uk which is why you have never seen them before. The store specializes in computer components for building your own pc's. I am 18 and me and all off my friends have been going to scan for years to buy items relating to computers and so have many people in the general area where I live.

These are Clevo rebranded laptops just like Sager and Prostar in the USA. They are manufactured in Taiwan and China (case and mobo) and shipped to store where the customer configures. Sager allows you to configure Graphics cards also which isn't the case with these. But they are Clevo. Sager also uses Compal.

MSATA versus SATA. Typically a laptop SSD is 2.5" MSATA drives are smaller but basically the same SATA drives. One difference is I've cloned SSD's in the past using an external case. Well I haven't seen any external Msata cases. I just bought a laptop and when i ordered it said 256 SSD and 1 TB HD. Well the 256 is a MSATA.

Also another thing about Clevo. They are a ODM just like Compal and Quanta 2 of the biggest. I believe quanta make more computer then any other company. The difference from Clevo and Compal with Clevo is Clevo does their own designs and sell as barebones to companies that rebrand with their own names. The other two manufacture for the OEM's (Apple,Dell, HP, Sony, Acer) based on the OEM's designs. Asus and MSI sell their own brand and barbones. ASUS and MSI sometime use other ODM's to manufacture their models. They have go into the battle with the OEM's a few years back after price wars they started releasing their own brands instead of exclusively barebones. Both have been making components for years also.
