Gaming Mouse?

I've been looking for a gaming mouse for a long, long time, and have had
little luck so far.

I want a high-sensitivity mouse that suits me. The problem is that I have
RSI and have to hold the mouse such that my thumb clicks the primary button
the my first finger clicks the secondary button. Clicking with my middle
finger is too painful (that's where the problem is).

Currently, I use the basic Logitech optical mouse (
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2142,CONTENTID=8146
). This mouse shape is fine for me.

So ideally the mouse would be the same shape as my basic Logitech one, but
would be an accurate one like the MX 510, for example.

Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Get a four button (well five actually with center scroll wheel) mouse like
Microsoft's Intellimouse Optical and configure the side buttons however you
need them.

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=004

Or get the Razer Viper. It is specifically designed for gaming:

that should be "my thumb clicks the primary button AND my first finger
clicks the secondary button"

I have the MX510 and I guess you could use one of the side (thumb)
buttons as your left click and the normal left click as secondary.

Yeah - I have it too. I bought it since it has the side buttons. However,
I find that I can't really get the control that I need when using the side
buttons as primary function. I find I lose grip on the mouse when my thumb
isn't in the groove.

If the button were in the groove, however, it'd work...

Thanks for the thought.

Couldn't you reconfigure the side button as the secondary one?

I see what you're thinking, but the game I play requires that I use both
buttons just about as often as each other.

Thanks

Oh I see.

For most FPSs, I like to configure.

Left mouse = primary fire.
Right mouse = use.
Ctrl = secondary fire.

But this does presuppose that 'use' and 'secondary fire' are much less
important than 'primary fire'.

What about a Nostromo?

Or perhaps a foot-controlled pad?

Personally I use a Logitech MX310, since I don't care for contoured mice
at all.

Normal left/right/center-mousewheel buttons, plus one on each side and
one on top (behind the wheel).

Having just tried it - you should be able to have your index finger on
the mouse1, ring finger on mouse2 and move the thumb between the side of
the mouse and the left side button. Unless you got enormous hands.

Hmm, and in that position you could even have the little finger on the
right side button for easy use. I don't use that button much since I
use a normal index/middle finger on mouse 1/2 which puts my ring finger
on the side well in front of the side button.

>Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

For the game I play most these say (City of Heroes), the left, right and
middle buttons are the default functions (select, rotate view, rotate
camera), the left side button is my targeting toggle (next enemy), the
right side button is my recenter camera view button and the top button
is my alternate autorun button.

I could not go back to a "normal" 3 button mouse now.

No, MX310. I don't want a contoured mouse.

The 310 is a normally shaped mouse, with the optical engine and multiple
buttons. It's also substantially cheaper than the 510.

Near as I can tell, the MX310 is the only one that actually meets the
OP's requirements of:
"So ideally the mouse would be the same shape as my basic Logitech one,
but would be an accurate one like the MX 510, for example."

I don't know if the 310 is as accurate as the 510, since i've never had
a 510, but it's been the most precise mouse i've ever had.

I just got my order from Newegg for these "mouseskates" for the bottom
of my MX510 mouse. The difference with them is VERY noticable. I
highly recommend these even if the shiping is almost the same price as
the damn pads. (lots of extra pads though)

X-RAYPAD ZeroFriction MouseSkates (Oblong Shape) $7

I also use an old Ratpadz.com mouse surface, with a little Mad Wax on
it every few months. Smoooooth.

Without wishing to sound condescending, perhaps if you have RSI, you
should think about another hobby other than gaming.

What's wrong with a contoured mouse? I'm left handed(since an accident) and
really have no proble using a right handed contour mouse. I'd buy a lefty if
someone made them.

Why would I want to do that. And yes,you are condescending. I get along just
fone without using my right arm.

I don't want one, they feel a bit clumsy to me, and it would be awkward
switching between two differently shaped mice.
[I have two computers on my desk, so there's 2 mice by my mouse pad, my
MX310 and an old ball mouse that's pretty much the same shape.

Never really felt a need to make it smoother, it's fine as it is.

I still have my 3M Precise Mousing Surface on the desk even though i'm
using an optical mouse now.
I like having a mousepad that's only a few mm thick, sure beats those
old half-cm thick foam mousepads from the old days.
