Building a new pc for purely gaming this year. I'm on the fence about going either AMD or Intel. I have a budget of about 1000$ (power supply already purchased) 850W Thermaltake

Intel build
- i5 4690k
- z97 gaming 5
- EVGA SSC 970 Gtx
- corsair vengeance pro 8x2 GB 1600mhz
- SSD Samsung evo 250g
AMD build
- AMD FX 8350 or 8370
- Asus m5a99fx
- MSI R9 390 or R9 390x
- corsair vengeance pro 8x2 GB 1866mhz
- SSD Samsung evo 250GB

Feedback is much appreciated, I just want a good gaming pc to last me about 2-3 years.

Current games I play ( WoW, league of legends, BF4 , Fallout 4, etc..)

The Intel Build will completely destroy the AMD build even when the AMD build has more powerful graphics card. FX is way below the i5 in terms of single core performance so the Intel build would be WAY better. You could also get a cooler and overclock the i5 on that Z97 board very well still having cool temperatures boosting the performance even further.

The Intel one is the way to go. Good luck :)

Are these examples of an intel i5 completely destroying an AMD FX chip in gaming?

Or does destroy mean a different thing to you than it does to the rest of us?

Actually its an i5 . The AMD has more threads per processor . The intel doesnt even hyperthread and even if it did that wont help game performance .
Anything else you'd like me to explain to you?

Tomshardware cpu charts use much older games . Starcraft and Oblivion were used for many years. Both strongly favor a pair intels architecture.

How about Witcher 3

If anything a very small advantage to the intel that you could never notice on a 60 Hz screen , and would be way more than offset by having all that extra money to spend on a better graphics card

Yeah , as the last video shows if you overclock an intel i5 by 1200 Mhz it can run about the same or fractionally better than an FX overclocked 700 MHz ..

The heck are you talking about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20QPpIqo-YY
i5-4690K OC destroys FX-8350 OC, only in some games that favor 6-8 cores does FX behave more stable but you need to know that the FX also produces tons of heat and consumes a lot of power. Because of FX's poor single thread performance, in games that use 1-4 cores, i5 will destroy it.

Check this out too. The i5 goes way ahead of the FX in most games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZN64tKL1e8

Okay, so I'm leaning towards the Intel side.. saw reviews and most people say it's a safe buy. Awesome for gaming. And I've always had AMD builds but I heardon't there quality has really gone to shit.

390 and 970 are approximately the same. It comes down to preference + price. 390x is noticeably more powerful though

Now, my last questions before i'm good to go!

- Currently what is the best brand for the GTX 970 (EVGA,MSI,GIGABYTE,ASUS.. ETC) i know they all have their own unique price and baseclock/boost but which is the best for the price? and what do you guys think of directX12, do you guys think maybe it will put AMD ahead of nvida cards.. or it's going to be the same crap.

Really hoping to make the final decisions on my build so i can get ready to see what deals come out of black friday and or cyber monday.

* Thanks again everyone for all the feedback and the help on the decisions!

MSI Twin Frozr, ASUS Strix, and EVGA ACX 2.0 are the best. DX 12 will give both NVIDIA and AMD cards the benefit. Sayings that it will give 100%+ boost is a lie.
