Dear friends,

I'm about to build a (budget) gaming PC for my nephew, who will play games like CS:GO, GTA, Fortnite, PUBG, Overwatch and other - mainly FPS/shooters I guess - games.

It will be his first gaming PC (and first PC actually. He's mainly been playing games on PS) and I am allowed to spend maximum 10,000 Danish crowns which corresponds to approximately 1,500 USD. Please be aware, that we in Denmark have to deal with a VAT of 25% in the detail market.

Therefore, we could argue for a USD budget of 1100-1200 USD just to be sure.
I've build two gaming PC's before - my own with a budget of around 1800 USD and one for a friend of mine back in october 2017. I was considering to copy the PC I build for my friend which you can see here:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bWhx8K

As said, since my nephew will be a first-time gaming PC owner this build may be sufficient. However, I am not sure if we get a high enough cost/performance ratio with this build?

(E.g. considering to change the SSD with a m.2 drive and also go with a GTX 1070 GPU).

We would appreciate your feedback, comments and suggestions for improvements.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: P.S: We are most likely not going to overclock since I'm not into this (yet).

Hi Henrik,

Kuddos on building your nephew a gaming PC. I'm sure he'll enjoy it.

I have some suggestions on your build:

1.) Try to get the fastest RAM you can with Ryzen; usually 3000-3200MHz but even 2800MHz would be better. You will have to set the speed in bios.
    2.) A 2TB HDD is usually only a few $$ more than a 1TB.
3.) 120GB SSD is small, 240GB+ is more reasonable.
4.) The EVGA NEX was one of the older, lower quality PSUs they made. The G2, G3, or G1+ would be much better. If on a budget you could also go with a bronze rated unit such as the Corsair CX650 (2017) but even a 550W would work well.
5.) Optional: Ryzen 2600 + B450 mobo would be better, but if the price is much more then I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps.
-Volk

Hi Volkgren,

Thank you for your feedback, appreciate it!
I also did this build:

This could be a great alternative; maybe switch RAM from 16 gigs to 8.
Do you wanna comment on this build as well? :)
Cheers!
