Gaming pc wont display on my tv

so my Gaming pc that i just built is hooked up to my tv and no picture displays, i have everything connected properly but i dont have a hard drive with os in it yet what could make it not display a picture

No you should still see the BIOS startup and the PC telling you there is no OS to boot from.

it wont even let me boot the bios menu. like the TV doesn't even pick up that the computer is plugged in

Did you change the setting within the TV's menu to select the computer as the source? Mine says HDMI.

Well I just unplugged my Xbox from the hdmi and plugged in my Pc, do I have to change the tv settings??

Is the TV connected to the gpu and not the motherboard?

Have you tried a single 970?

Yes it's in the mother board and I have tried one gpu and still nothing, could the hdmi cord I'm using be a problem because it's just a random cord I had laying around

Perhaps by unplugging the Xbox, the TV defaulted to a different input. When I have the TV set to HDMI and if my computer is off, the TV displays a message like "no input signal" or something to that effect. Wouldn't hurt to check the TV's settings.

Ok but if that doesn't fix anything and it's not the tv what could it be, and I have 3 sticks of the same ram and one off stick of the same brand just different heat spreaders could that be a problem

If you have a gpu installed the TV needs to be connected to it. The motherboard graphics will be disabled.

so don't plug the hdmi into the motherboard and plug it into the graphics card because ive been told not to do that

As said above, if a GPU is installed, onboard graphics will be disabled. You could take out the GPU if you want to test with the onboard. Even if using the GPU, you may need another monitor to configure the HDMI output. When I first connected my TV Via HDMI, the TV was not displaying anything because the GPU was outputting a signal at a resolution the TV couldn't handle. Of course, I had my OS installed so I could install the NVIDEA control panel software to make the changes.

It must be plugged into the GPU, the motherboard graphics are automatically disabled when a GPU is installed.

It's for sure plugged into the motherboards hdmi but it might be a problem with my tv settings that I haven't checked yet

Both Sizzling and I have told you that if you have a GPU installed, you are never going to get signal output from the motherboard's HDMI port (or DVI-I, or DVI-D or any other port).

Whoever told you to plug into the motherboard when you have a dedicated gpu is wrong.

Have you removed the second card? With Sli only the to card's output will work.

It was something with the tv where I needed to swap from one hdmi to a different one then boot it and back and now it works
