Hello all

I’ll try to keep this short but the more info I give the more precise help I may receive (I hope).

Laptop model: Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05H Gaming Laptop (4 years old) with:

CPU: Intel I5-10300H
GPU: rtx2060 gpu
RAM: 16GB
Storage: 500GB

Up until probably the last year or so my laptop was fine but it has developed an issue . Playing games has become very very erratic . Basically completely random (some games more so) will crash . Due to the small size of the storage I can only have a few games installed at a time but even uninstalling games and getting new ones has the same result.

Just as a quick run down of the games I’m running at the moment and their problems …

Call of duty black ops cold war . This is the worst , time permitting these days , given the time to play it can crash many times with in a hour during which the game will play for sometimes seconds once loaded in , maybe up to 20 minutes and anything in between then randomly I may get an hour out of it then crashes .

Rocket league. I’ll play online as a team with my kids it can be for an hour or so and at some point not always it will crash at least once but very rarely twice, so its not to bad.

Any driving game will crash so randomly and I lose my progress unless I pause to save regularly if the game has this feature. Forza horizon 5, ride 4 ,assetto corsa /compet , project cars 2 , automobilsta 2 etc etc.

Minecraft. This seems to be the only game that runs fine . We can play online as a family for a couple of hours if we really get into it and I’ve not had any issues SO FAR.

Now that the run down has been given what have I done to fix this ????

I’ve checked my drivers I’m fairly sure they are up to date. Updated what I can. Reinstalled said games. Changed settings to lower the stress on the laptop. All games run fine when ok, fps is over 100 . I lower settings to get better fps so it seems that the laptop is powerful enough. I’ve used NVidia app to adjust settings as well on a scrolling scale from recommended down to low still no affect. I even opened the laptop to clean it out and yes it needed it and it did help the gpu temp .

I didn’t go as far as removing the heat pipes to get to some extra vents as I believe this would then have needed me to renew thermal paste and a couple of things that I’m not ready to do just yet ( but maybe will do IF I have to ).

The GPU seems to get up to about 87 / 88 at max mostly hovers 75 to 85. I have just done a cloud reinstall of windows 11 to remove any crap on the system then loaded one game at a time but no change. I was originally going to reinstall windows completely and remove all the Lenovo bloat but chickened out , I’ve not had much experience of doing that and wasn’t sure if removing Lenovo bloat would adversely affect functions on the laptop so I went for the lesser issue reinstall still with bloatware.

Sorry for the long post but as I said above……..

I hope that someone can help. Any more info need I’ll be glad to try and supply it.

Thank you

Tom

I'll check CPU temp next time.
What do you mean manufacturers tool. Is that Lenovo or maker of the storage.
