Hello,

I'm upgrading and I live in Canada. I have a $1000 CAD limit to spend on a decent gaming rig. I've already purchased the case, power supply and gpu which you can view through the link below.

I am seeking some recommendations on what cpu, motherboard, and ram combination would be ideal with the set-up thus far.

I have have spent about $625 so far, therefore I have $375 CAD remaining to spend. I will be able to get a free copy of microsoft windows 10 since I am a student. Also, I have an unused Corsair H60 cpu cooler that I purchased a while back that I can use.

Please find my current build here: http://

Thanks in advance.

If it's not too late to return the 960, I would. The Radeon R9 380 is around the same price and a LOT faster (~50% faster in many cases), and the RX480, when it comes out in the near future, will slaughter it, also for around the same price. It's simply not a very good value.

You won't need the Corsair H60 CPU Cooler. You could sell it, use the profits for more RAM.

Hey,

1) I suggest a 2666MHz CL DDR4 kit instead.

2) I'd prefer to see a better motherboard than linked above but pricing may be tight.

3) i5-6500 is my top choice too.

I guess that's it, so I'll post this and check pricing and post below.

(I would keep the CPU cooler. You don't want stock as it's a bit noisy, and a basic air cooler is $40 or so that's half decent, and you likely can't sell the H60 for more than this)

That's about the best that I can do, though I'd prefer a better motherboard. I would add another identical 8GB kit later for 16GB total (4x4GB) but it wasn't in the budget.

Make sure you have FOUR DDR4memory slots or you'll limit yourself.

THIS MOTHERBOARD is worth investigating and it's roughly $117CDN right now but that took about $40 over budget:

Hi,

Thanks for your help so far! I definitely agree that the i5-6500 is the ideal cpu to get.

I was considering the GA-H170-Gaming 3 with the ram as you suggested (G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB; F4-2400C15D-8GVR), however I was wondering if this ram is actually compatible with this motherboard.

Parts picker says it is compatible but I could not find the ram listed in the motherboard's qualified vendors list. Furthermore, the motherboard specs states that it only accepts 2100MHz memory and the G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB is 2400MHz.

UPDATE: I was considering getting this motherboard. It is slightly overbudget but I think it may be worth it. It is compatible with the G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB; F4-2400C15D-8GVR.

Thanks!

I bought this card for 300 CAD on sale, the other card would cost me at least 60 dollars more than this. This card is an overclocked version of the 960 anyway.

If people are suggesting its vital that I return it, I may do that but would prefer to start my build.

keep the card for now its good get a 1070 later when you have more money but for now your fine
