Hi,

So it has been 5 years (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/263756-31-gaming-build) since my last build and I am looking to build a new monster gaming rig.I would like to be able to max out games like BF4, COD, etc, and have some room for maxing out future games. I would like to get either a 27" or 30" monitor (advice on picking one is appreciated. I need something that will be able to output Dolby Digital Sound so I can use my headset.

I am looking to spend around $1500CAD (1400 USD)

GPU: Recommendations please, I am inexperienced on GPU's currently.

For the graphics card I suggest either the MSI 780 twinFrozr or the saphire r9 290 tri-X
Other models can be equally as good.
Your powersupply isn't that effiecient, my suggestion would be the evga 750w 80+ as it is more effiecient and leaves more room for overclocking ect. (if you can afford, your PSU is useable as it is)
I haven't any knowledge in sound cards, sorry. (You don't actually need them in my experience, but they do improve sound alot)
If you can afford it, the ASUS VG248QE is a great moniter, but a lot of moniters are great for gaming.

For upcoming games your best bet would be to wait for 900 series to be out this septmeber, they are rumoured to be more powerful and cheaper, the build looks fine, psu is good and you don't need a sound card

Hi,

Thanks everyone for their assistance. I should have been clear, I would like to spend $1500 not including monitor. I would like a 27" or 30" for gaming. I also already have an optical drive therefore I do not require this one.

Is my 650w power supply adequate for a build? I would rather spend the money elsewhere if I can reuse this PSU.

I also own an operating system therefore do not require it in this build.

How do GEForce and Radeon cards compare? Are they equal in performance? Also, I do not feel like waiting for the latest and greatest card, I can purchase what is available currently.

Could I reuse my CPU cooler as well? Again I would like to spend the money on hardware elsewhere if possible.

Your PSU is good enough for this build. The R9 290 is faster than any Nvidia card, GTX 780 or below. Looking at your specs again, I would consider a new case as well. I had an Antec 900, and cable management was a nightmare with that case. The cooler is reusable for this build. Made some changes to the build.

Monitor, I would probably look at Asus, Samsung, Dell, and LG mostly.

logainofhades - I know the Antec 900 is a cable management nightmare as I did my previous build in it. I would like to avoid buying another case if possible as I could use the money elsewhere (Hardware). I have never built a computer using a SSD drive. Is this HD solely for running the OS? Or would it actually be for installing games as well? If it is just for the OS, could I not go with a smaller drive to save money? Will that video card you spec'd be able to max out games on a 27" monitor at full resolution? Also, I would like to have bluetooth capability on this computer. Does that MB support bluetooth? As for the CPU, is it worth going with the i7 vs the i5? For memory, should I get more then 8GB?

The one I listed, in my last post, is big enough for OS and a few games. Honestly, you have enough in the budget, given all that you are reusing, for a far better case, like a corsair 300r. 8gb of ram is still enough for a gaming rig. The GPU will not have a problem running any game @ 1080p. The monitor size doesn't matter, resolution does. 😉 Pick up a USB bluetooth adapter from Best buy or something. The i7 will last you longer as games become more multithreaded. Since you seem to be the type that keeps their system a long time, an i7 makes more sense for you.
