I have a gateway media center gt5028 desktop. It has a dual core 2.0ghz processor. It's still holding up fine although I am hoping adding a ssd will speed it up quite a bit. It's running XP and I am not sure if this system is too outdated for reasons I've picked up online (but don't fully understand) like IDE, SATA, AHCI, TRIM.
I am not computer savvy, but I was hoping to make a big difference in speeds, and down the road move the ssd to a laptop when I eventually upgrade.
Is this a simple upgrade? Do I need to use an ide to sata adapter? Can I use any sata....or are there limitations? Like sata or sata 2 is okay...but not sata 3?
Thanks in advance
Jim

It will only make a difference in boot up time to get to the desktop. Overall operational speed is dictated by the cpu unless you don't have enough ram in which case the system will use your hard drive as extremely slow ram.

The Gateway spec page says you have an Athlon 64 x2 processors with 1gb of memory and an IDE harddrive. You won't see alot of improvement due to the slow IDE bus unless you add in a sata adapter card along with the ssd. These are all expenses I would not recommend putting into this old computer.
