Hi all!
Been searching all over the internet for a while now, and i just have to nicely ask here if someone can be so kind and help me?

I am pretty sure my old GeForce 8800 GTX card have made its final impact on my 8 year old computer. So i was wondering what kind of alternative/replacement graphics card there is and my computer spec?
I do not have the biggest budget to spend, but I just want my computer back up with a similar graphics card to play my usual games like CS GO :) Budget I thought of was from 120 - 200 $.

My current computer spec:
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4L nForce-65 ATX , Socket-775, GbLAN, 2xPCI-Ex16
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz Socket 6MB, BOXED, 1333Mhz
FORMER Graphicscard: Club3D Geforce 8800GTX 768MB PCIe 384BIT,GDDR3, Dual DVI, TV-out
Memory: Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB Kit w/two matched CM2X1024A-6400

Not sure if that is all needed to find a new one for my computer, but i would really appreciate any help or tips to make my old computer back working again.

Tnx!

that's sadly the only kicker. no one knows yet. but mid month is what is expected. another week to 10 days. if you need it now, then obviously something that already is for sale is needed. give me a few to look at the psu specs to see what it can handle
you're power supply is needed as well. but more than likely something like a 750ti would be good enough. but i'd wait for the new amd 460 and 470 to show up. they should be in that price range and a lot better for the money. the 460 won't need any extra power and should be a solid card for your old machine.

I would NOT wait when there are low power solutions that pair well with that GPU , a 460 or 470 would be eternally CPU bottle necked. No PSU upgrade needed.

Thanks so much for the fast responses guys.

Powersupply is a MIST 600W i believe. Rev 3.
Okey, so any idea when the new amd 460 and 470 will be available to buy?

respect your opinion. but i also respect mine. why settle when something better is right on the horizon? :) and that whole bottleneck thing is so overplayed it's just getting silly. i would not buy a weaker gpu based on such old wives tales.

it's what's nice about the forum. can get a number of opinions and make up their own mind. ours are different but both very valid. will let the op decide once he understands all the options.

Really appreciate the tips and thoughts from all of you guys. Makes me more confident in making the right choice :)
Bummer, cause i could perhaps wait if its just right around the corner, but kind of need my computer up and running in 2-3 weeks time :/
That would be fantastic Math Geek!

ok looks like a decent unit. the 500w one reviewed ok for a budget in house brand. you can handle pretty much any card you can afford.

this would be my first choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487091&cm_re=evga_gtx_960-_-14-487-091-_-Product
gtx 960 SSC for $150 after rebate.

some cheaper 950's for $20 less if you wanna go a bit cheaper. i am of course assuming you are in the US and can get the card. if not let me know where you are and i can work with that as well :)

Well if i can breathe some new life into my old computer with a few more items than only a graphicscard, that would be awesome. So i might consider this suggestion aswel, tnx :)

i actually have a q6600 pc with an r9-270 (slighty better than a 750ti) and it still games rather well at 1080p. not running max settings but it's still a very viable system. you should be able to pick up a used one for rather cheap. maybe even a better 9*** series chip if you get lucky.

Great news about the PSU, glad something is usable on my computer, haha.
Yeah thats the problem, I live in Norway so trying to find a suitable site which sell that card.

When I put my old system together I was able to get a Q9550 from eBay for $35, 8gb DDR2 800 for $40 and used my old Radeon 6870. It runs pretty good with Windows 10 64-bit and runs Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 on medium settings without issue. (Note, I did overclock the CPU to 3.4ghz, but it was running pretty good before I did that, lol)

that's what i was wondering since the psu is an in house norway brand. no biggie i do this all the time and can easily skim a local site for you and see what's there.

can you link me to a store you can buy from. and a budget in the local dollars so i can skim and see what is available for what price. english would be preferable but if not, then start me out at the graphics card pages and i'll go from there.

edit: i'm an old pro at this and know what is better than what so it takes little time to shop for another country. :)

my kids ain't complaining either. have an old dell xps 420. only change was the new gpu (was the strongest the stock psu could handle at the time) and it's good to go. it's got a lot of life left in it.

hehe, that would be awesome if you could!
I'm afraid that the stores i usually buy from do not have english options to their sites, so i can only link the graphicscard sections to you, and you be sure to ask me anything if you have some problems understanding 😀
A few of the stores i buy from:
https://www.komplett.no/category/10412/skjermkort (This is the site i use most)
https://www.netonnet.no/art/datakomponenter/skjermkort
https://www.mpx.no/category/19431/komponenter/skjermkort

I am not entirely sure, but is this perhaps the same card?
https://www.netonnet.no/art/datakomponenter/skjermkort/nvidia/evga-geforce-gtx960-4gb-sc-gaming/228042.11111/

Local dollars on these sites will be from 1000 NOK (120$) to 1800 NOK (200$).

haha, that would be enough for me aswell. My hardcore gaming days are by far long gone, but i usually tend to play some CS:GO with a bunch of friends, and I ofc love oldschool CS 1.6 😀
But in my case atm I was looking for a quick fix for this computer, and perhaps upgrade it or buy a new one in 1-2 years time.
But really appreciate your suggestions mate :)

Appreciate your suggestion, and I will ofc take it into my consideration when i decide what to do :)

If you decide on the long route, keeping it original, I have an 8800 GTS in a box that you can have free for the price of shipping. to be clear, you pay the exact shipping cost from Canada (Canada post gift) and I'll send you the card at no additional charge.

I still think the money would be better spent on a 750 Ti.

ok on the lower end i see a nice 750ti for 1.395 https://www.komplett.no/product/807718/datautstyr/skjermkort/pci-express/msi-geforce-gtx-750ti-gaming-2gb-physx

and a bit more for a lot better card would be this gtx 950 at 1.749 https://www.komplett.no/product/852659/datautstyr/skjermkort/pci-express/evga-geforce-gtx-950-2gb-physx-cuda

the 960's are out of your budget starting at 1.900 -2.000 nok but a 950 is almost as good.

edit: from one of the other sites, but i don't think the money is the same. but if it is this is solid as well for 1690 kr https://www.netonnet.no/art/datakomponenter/skjermkort/nvidia/msi-geforce-gtx960-gaming-2g-le/234478.11111/

and finally from the last site. these look to be the best prices.

a 750ti at 999 https://www.mpx.no/product/827806/komponenter/skjermkort/pci-express/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-750ti-2gb-physx

and a 960 4gb at 1.596 https://www.mpx.no/product/850779/komponenter/skjermkort/pci-express/msi-geforce-gtx-960-4gb-tiger-2x this would be the best deal if it is the right money units :)

Is it my computer you refer to as a nice vintage gaming machine, or the ones Martell1977 or Math Geek mentioned?
Mine was a great gaming machine back in the days though, but I would love to do a quick fix and get it back up and use it before i buy myself a new one in a few years time :)
